Early photographs and recordings of the band will be shared, as well as samples from Raiatea Helm’s new album: A Legacy of Hawaiian Song & String, Volume One , co-produced by Kealakai Center for Pacific Strings. This album features recreated transcriptions from recordings of the String Ensemble of the Royal Hawaiian Band uncovered through the research of Kealakai Center.

Naonal Tropical Botanical Garden Presents: Epic Stories of Polynesian Voyages, Culre and The Plants Brought to Hawai‘i Tuesday, April 30, 5 p.m. check-in Through time, the Polynesians learned how to live sustainably on their canoes, preserve limited resources, and also how to flourish here in the Hawaiian Islands. At this moving presentation, Lei Wann, Director of Limahuli Garden on Kauai, and Mike Opgenorth, Director of Kahanu Garden on Maui, will share some of the important botanical and cultural stories, in a presentation centered on the concept of biocultural conservation. Biocultural conservation is at the heart of the National Tropical Botanical Garden (NTBG). NTBG is a non-profit institution dedicated to discovery, research, education and conservation.
