2003 John Conway Jones passed away, the HISC based sailor won the Solo National titles in 1968 -1972, his second win in Solo 1405 ‘Geronimo’ which was a bright green Stone build. Halfway Y.C. had ceased to exist but many members moved to the nearby Thorpe Bay Y.C. There were 58 new builds, 4 down from 2002. Severn and Thresher displayed their new builds at the Dinghy Show and Jim Hunt and Jamie Lea provided some tuning sessions in the hall. Thresher advertised FRP composite hulls utilising his own plug and proved home kits for an incredibly low price. Speed Sails advertised a new sail from £395 while Purple Marine parted ways with Winder Boats to concentrate on their chandlery business. The capacitance of 50p per open meeting entry was abolished, prizes would now be funded by NSCA funds, confirming what a great job committees had done over the past twenty years. Membership numbered 864 and the full subscription fee was £15. There were 56 competitors at the Winter Championship at Bristol Corinthian representing the highest number yet for that event, Simon Potts the victor. The NSCA held an EGM and the vote to allow a slight change to boom dimensions allowing multiple manufacturers was agreed. Until then only the Holt Polaris section was available and it was about to cease production. The mast tip weight rule is scrapped, we once had to position a piece of lead half way up the mast but it invariably dropped to the heel on a windy day! Ian Houston won the Nationals at Llandudno with Andy davis defending his junior title and vanda young winning her sixth vacher cup in the miles build.
