2020 The season started as normal, fixtures in place, sponsors on board. 19 hardy sailors made it to Broadwater to contest the chessboard trophy, Roger Bennett adding his name to the to the who’s who of solo sailing. There were a handful of other open meetings and then a hastily re- arranged noble marine winter championship at king George. Gillard, birkin-walls and davis completed the podium before we all shook hands and went into lockdown. Virtual sailing took off, members logged in to webinar talks and everyone stayed home and washed their hands regularly. President Doug latta had overseen the introduction of the NSCA demo solo, this would be a fabulous initiative and two more have since followed. A good six months later we were allowed to social sail and soon after, events re-started, albeit with entry limited and no changing rooms or prize givings possible. Paul mc’combie won the solo vr championship, beating 79 competitors, fatigue was no excuse and paul’s win was put down to a delay while waiting to fly a plane somewhere, the free time enabling him to hone his keyboard skills. In committee news, John steels had taken over membership from Phil Sturmer. We all looked forward to 2021.
