2024 Tom gillard’s all conquering winder 6021 was on display at the dinghy show with the new ginger boat (boatyard at beer mould). Ben mc’crane finished third at the noble marine winter championship, only davis and davenport in front and ben was racing a gosling 4257, a great result. Steve Ede finally stepped away from his role as championship organiser, the seamless running of so many championships were down to his time, negotiating skills and attention to detail. A very hard act to follow. The coaching position was also up for grabs and we looked forward to welcoming the plethora of volunteers at the AGM in august. Will loy once again threatened to step away from publicity, hoping the veiled threat would be sufficient to prompt a replacement. Unfortunately everyone could see that he just liked it too much to let go. Cumbley won the spring championship at king George, gracing north London with his sublime skills. Nick Charles lifted the chessboard trophy at Broadwater and would forever be immortalised on a brass plate upon it. In fifty years, some other editor will reminisce about the victory. Brightlingsea would be the venue for the national and nation’s cup and a stonking one hundred competitors enjoyed a week of racing, pim van vugt (NED) taking the victory and the trophy back to his home land. The dutch are tall but they all stood like giants after his win. Davenport and Cumbley completed the podium with fellow dutchman menno huisman seventh. The dutch fleet were now full of confidence and vugt backed up his win with the one title, best placed uk representative was chris bunn in fourth. Class chairman Paul de gues should be rightfully proud of where the class is in his country, strength through the fleet is strong and the female element too sends a message to the uk fleet that the next few years of glory are up for grabs. Gillard won another inland title from Martin honnor and Andrew Wilde. The latter had returned to the fleet after trying the demo solo so the initiative clearly works.. the eos was won by class president Mayger, justification if ever there was that the committee are made up of racing people. Davenport defended the north sails super series and Andy Carter won the super voucher for a new P3.
