Faculty Professional Development HCC is committed to supporting professional development for its full-time, adjunct, and temporary senior lecture faculty. Professional development activities should enhance faculty skills, strengthen their competencies, and enrich the teaching and learning process. HCC believes in providing the highest quality professional development opportunities for faculty, as their continuous acquisition of knowledge and skills will enrich the classroom experience for our students. Each full-time faculty member will write an annual professional development plan (PDP) (or update in the case of a multi-year plan) and participate in an annual performance review in consultation with their Division Director. The Faculty Annual Review and Professional Development Plan (ARPDP) is outcomes based. Working with their Division Director, faculty craft a plan guided by yearly divisional and HCC Strategic Plan goals and objectives (Policy #5050 (FLPTC) in the Board of Trustees Policy Manual). The relationship between each faculty goal, the division’s goals, and the HCC Strategic Plan is presented. A yearly or multi-year professional development plan must be approved by the Division Director and the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Student Services. The ARPDP form can be found under ‘Forms & Schedules’ on the Academic Affairs Office webpage. Faculty may also access the form directly at: https://www.hagerstowncc.edu/docs/academic-affairs/faculty-annual- review-and-professional-development-plan. Faculty Annual Review and Professional Development Plan Timeline Full-time faculty are required to complete the Faculty Annual Review and Professional Development Plan each year. The following provides an annual time frame during which faculty members are expected to complete their development plans: 1. Start-Up – Time will be specified during a period between May-June with approval from the Division Director. 2. Approval – The plan will be approved by the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Student Services and the President. Requested revisions will be sent to the faculty member in writing no later than the subsequent August workshop. 3. Review of Plan – A mid-year verbal progress review of the implementation of the plan should occur by December of each year. Unsatisfactory progress review requires documentation. 4. Annual Plan Evaluation and Update – The previous year’s annual plan goals are evaluated and updated as needed during the annual May workshops. Goals for the coming year are established. Any goal for which institutional financial support is expected must include a budget estimate. Completing the Faculty Annual Review and Professional Development Plan (ARPDP) Professional development means developing continuously as a faculty member, such as improving instructional techniques and design, learning new topics and concepts, and remaining technologically competent.
