HAGERSTOWN COMMUNITY COLLEGE

one or two-semester leaves of absence without pay (unpaid sabbaticals or mutual consent leaves) will be counted as years in rank toward promotion. However, a leave of absence without pay will not be counted toward eligibility for future sabbaticals. Division Director or Dean Impact Statement – In processing all sabbatical requests in their areas of responsibility the appropriate administrator or academic officer must prepare an impact statement detailing how the employee’s absence would be covered should the sabbatical be approved. The impact statement should also summarize the added financial cost to the College if the leave is granted. Faculty Evaluation Faculty members are evaluated routinely in order to maintain the College’s high standards for quality instruction and teaching effectiveness. Student evaluation surveys are administered at the end of each term for each course, while Division Directors perform annual supervisory evaluations for each full-time faculty member. Student Evaluation of Faculty (SEOF) Purpose- The College is committed to providing the most effective instruction for all students and is strong in the belief that, through classroom evaluation instruments, students can provide essential feedback to improve teaching and learning at HCC. The Student Evaluation of Faculty (SEOF) process provides students a voice in their education, provides a measure of administrative oversight, and allows for authentic faculty self-evaluation and assessment of the teaching and learning experience. Scores on individual items as well as student comments can offer specific information and valuable feedback on areas such as course methodology and instructional effectiveness. The scores also provide a tool for comparison within and across courses, programs, divisions, and the College. Student Evaluation of Faculty (SEOF) shall be administered in order to support faculty self- improvement, as well as to make administrative decisions (i.e., for mandated professional development and reappointment/dismissal). Student evaluations shall be used for administrative purposes only in combination with other measures of teaching effectiveness, including classroom observation of teaching normally conducted by the Division Director, or a designee. Process A. SEOFs are completed at the end of each term for all courses with six or more students registered regardless of mode of delivery, and all scores are counted towards the average SEOF score. B. The SEOF instrument shall consist of a College-wide form that is compulsory for all evaluated courses except off-site commercial vehicle courses, which have their own evaluation form. Courses with a Lab or Clinical designation have an additional set of questions pertaining directly to the unique nature of those courses. (See Appendix B) C. The SEOF instrument is administered online through EvaluationKit by the Office of Planning and Institutional Effectiveness (PIE) staff prior to the end of the term. The PIE staff reports
