Code of Student Conduct - Academic Integrity & Behavioral Reports As a faculty member you have the right to expect that students will not: • Disrupt the educational process in your classroom, online or in person; • Engage in academic dishonesty; • Infringe on the rights of others; especially with regard to mental or physical abuse, bullying, harassment, or conduct creating a perceived risk of violence, damage to property, or emotional harm; • Commit unlawful acts or violations of college rules. • Show you disrespect through extreme actions, comments, obscene, excessively loud or vulgar language; stating disagreement is not necessarily a show of disrespect; • Be present in unauthorized areas; • Display disorderly, lewd or indecent behaviors or distribute obscene or libelous written material; • Bring visitors into the classroom without your permission; • Use cell phones or electronic devices during class without your permission; • Make an audio or video recording on instructional activities without your written permission and/or permission from Disability Support Services due to an accommodation; • Intentionally provide you with false information in an official forum including but not limited to official documents; lying is not necessarily providing false information If a faculty member believes that any of these things are occurring, the student is subject to disciplinary action via the Code of Student Conduct. The first step in remedying the situation is to communicate with the offending student(s) and, if deemed necessary, notify the appropriate Division Director. Most situations will resolve after bringing the behavior concern to the student’s attention. If the situation does not improve, or if the initial concern is of an elevated nature, formal disciplinary procedures should be pursued through the Dean of Students (for behavior violations) or the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Student Services (for academic integrity violations). No one outside of these offices should tell a student what they think will happen as a result of an alleged conduct issue. HCC’s Code of Student Conduct outlines student expectations, Bill of Rights, and Prohibited Conduct. This is a Board approved policy with which all faculty and staff should be aware, and can be found as policy #4040 in the Board Policy Manual available on the HCC website at https://www.hagerstowncc.edu/docs/presidents-office/board-trustees-policy-manual. Procedures for the College’s response to alleged Code of Student Conduct violations are published in the HCC Student Handbook, available online at https://www.hagerstowncc.edu/student- activities/student-handbook , or in hard copy through the Dean of Students Office. Faculty should submit a General Student Report form to note concerning behavior or Code of Student Conduct concerns, and submit an Academic Integrity Report form to note academic integrity violations. See the Student Reporting/Incident Reporting Forms section for more
