activities, the Dean of Students may immediately restrict or suspend the student’s presence on campus pending disciplinary proceedings. Such action can only occur with documented concerns within conduct records and professors will be notified if students are unable to participate in classes. HCC’s Behavior Intervention Team meets on a regular basis (and as needed on an emergency basis) and maintains confidential records of concerning student behavior. When there is evidence that a student’s continuing presence on campus poses a substantial threat to the physical or emotional safety of any member of the College community, the BIT team has the authority to take appropriate action. The Dean of Students, Chief of Campus Police, and Managers of Retention & Registration and Disability Support & Cohort Programs are key BIT leaders. Administrative withdrawal will result if a student receives a sanction of Suspension or Expulsion from the College as an outcome to a Code of Student Conduct violation (either Academic Integrity violation and/or a Behavioral violation). In such cases, a student will be administratively withdrawn from classes, will receive a failing grade for classes in session at the time of Suspension or Expulsion, and will not be entitled to any institutional refund. Students can appeal Suspensions or Expulsions through the Code of Student Conduct due process procedures. Faculty should use their best judgement to delineate between unusual and/or disruptive concerning student behavior that warrants intervention from the Dean of Students, and less than ideal but more normal college student behavior that warrants more stringent classroom management techniques by the faculty. When in doubt, faculty are encouraged to complete a General Student Report for reporting and potential consultation. The Dean of Students office and/or BIT team intervene directly when student behavior reaches the level of a Code of Student Conduct behavioral violation. Faculty concerned about academic integrity or behavioral violations of the Code of Student Conduct should complete an online Student Report form for immediate review. The Academic Integrity Reporting Form should be used to document alleged academic integrity violations (processed by the Office of the Vice-President for Academic Affairs and Student Services) and the Retention Alert Form should be used to document alleged behavioral violations (processed by the Office of the Dean of Students). Both forms are easily accessible from the HCC website, Faculty & Staff page, Popular Links, Student Report Forms. Waitlists or Overrides Course section capacity can vary according to classroom size and/or course requirements. Class capacities are set and changed only by the Division Director. In some instances, when a class reaches its maximum capacity, a waitlist is automatically generated. The waitlist is checked by a Retention and Registration staff member each day and students are granted permission to be added into the class as others drop it. If the faculty member does not want to start a waitlist, they may grant written permission to allow a student into a closed class. Faculty can email permission to the Retention and Registration office at register@hagerstowncc.edu. Instructors are not required to oversubscribe their sections, but may do so at their own discretion. Instructors should work closely with the Division Director to manage overrides.
