We were saddened to hear of the recent deaths of some of our Allanian community in 2025. In Memoriam

Jared Armstrong Jared Armstrong, who attended Dame Allan’s in the late 1930s as a Chorister, died in April just short of his 99th birthday. Jared was the recipient of an Organ scholarship at Exeter College, Oxford before leading a long and distinguished career in music.

Richard Cavanagh (1993)

Helen Gillis Helen taught biology at Dame Allan’s from 1981 until her retirement in 2016, becoming Head of Biology across both schools. During her long service, she worked with many staff and pupils. Her daughter, Laura, a former pupil at Dame Allan’s, went on to become a vet. Helen had a fondness for the outdoors and a lifelong interest in the natural world. David Hall (1987) During his time at Dame Allan’s, David was a member of the very successful 1st XV rugby team and captained the school table tennis team. David was always very proud of his association with the school.

Mark (Freddie) Robson (1986)

Derek Tait Walker (1956) Derek made a huge contribution to Dame Allan’s over the years: as a pupil, an Allanian, by serving on the Development Trust and as a governor. A full obituary will follow in the next issue. Neil Warwick OBE (1986) Neil Warwick was a former Dame Allan’s parent as well as an Allanian. He was a prominent lawyer in the North East and passionate about the region, receiving an OBE in 2018 for services to the local economy and charity work.
