STARS OF CARRUM had a nice outing last start and should overcome the wide barrier. Look out for MOSH MUSIC. ROY HIGGINS Roy Higgins (1938-2014) was one of Australia’s greatest ever race riders, and he won the Melbourne Jockeys’ Premiership 11 times between 1965 and 1978. In March 1972 he rode 12 winners at the VRC’s three day Autumn Carnival. On five occasions he rode five winners at a meeting, including three times as an apprentice. Between 28 December 1976 and 8 January 1977, Roy had eight consecutive winning city rides. Roy Higgins won top-class races all over Australia, including the Melbourne Cup in 1965 (on Light Fingers) and in 1967 (on Red Handed). Roy retired from the saddle in October 1983 after having ridden over 2500 winners during a long and illustrious career. Roy Higgins’ place in Australian Racing history was formally recognised in 2001 when he was chosen as an inaugural inductee into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame.
