Year 10 Collaboration Day JAGS and DC 2021

Year 10 pupils at Jags and DC came together for a collaboration day focusing on ‘We cannot walk alone…walk with us’, Refugee week 2021.

Key note speaker Tania Campbell- Golding spoke about the work of Gua Africa who provide educational programs for survivors of war. Founder Emmanuel Jal, a former child solider from South Sudan vision includes developing leaders of the future who will be part of the solution in their home countries. Tania introduced Nyaruach Jok, Emmanuel’s sister, a former refugee currently seeking asylum in the UK. Nyaruach is a singer, writer and activist and whilst her journey has and is still difficult, her creativity and purpose is a shining example and beckon of hope to so many. Pupils had the opportunity to hear Nyaruach’s story and listen to her music, a mix of both poignant and humorous lyrics. Nyaruach speaks out for women's rights in South Sudan and across the world and believes we need to learn to love, respect and be as one with true equality. Nyaruach is the first female South Sudanese artist to have her music placed by radio one. Pupils then took part in a workshop making creative responses to the talks. Enjoy a selection of the artworks produced.
