CA Education for a Global Economy Initiative (Prop 58): Federal Compliance Items “The purpose of the California Education for a Global Economy (CA Ed.G.E.) Initiative is to ensure that all children in California public schools receive the highest quality education, master the English language, and access high-quality, innovative, and evidence-based language programs that prepare them to participate in a global economy.” (California Education Code (EC) Section 300(n)) The CA Ed.G.E. initiative amended EC sections 300, 305, 306, 310, 320 and 335, and repealed EC Section 311 (parent waiver). Student Services will ensure that stakeholders voice their interest about language programs and language acquisition programs through the following groups:

Parent Involvement Notifications ✓ SBCSS is dedicated to assisting parents and guardians in becoming active participants in the education of their children through ongoing collaboration, training, and participation in the decision-making process. ✓ To improve communication and make information accessible to parents SBCSS will when 15% or more of the school population speaks a language other than English, all notices, reports, statements, or records sent to the parent or guardian of any student shall, in addition to being written in English, be written in the student’s primary la nguage and may be responded to either in English or the primary language. ✓ Provides notification to parents regarding opportunities to participate in the English Language Advisory Committee and parent training opportunities. ✓ Notifies parents of English Learners annually regarding achievement on standardized assessments. ✓ Provides additional involvement opportunities for English Learner parents and guardians as stated in the SBCSS Board Parent Involvement Policy 1260.
