Journée Marc Pilon La 15 e édition de l’omnium Nation Open «Journée Marc Pilon» se tenait le 30 mai dernier au Club de Golf Nation. Encore cette année, le tournoi de golf a attiré environ 200 participants et une somme de près de 20 000 dollars a été amassée pour la Fondation Marc Pilon, qui vient en aide aux gens victimes d’accident. Pour l’occasion, une personnalité bien connue originaire de Saint- Pascal-Baylon, Jacques Martin, était de la partie. Il participe à l’événement depuis plusieurs années en appui au père de Marc Pilon, Richard Pilon, son ancien voisin. Round and round for Special Olympics
ROCKLAND | Students at the hockey acad- emy spent one of their Saturdays going around in circles. The Canadian International Hockey Aca- demy (CIHA) hosted its first CIHA Skate-a- Thon on May 31. The planned annual event will raise money for causes dealing with sports or community support. This year more than five dozen of the aca- demy’s students laced up their skates and took to the ice to raise money to help with expenses for a Special Olympics floor hoc- key tournament planned for next year at Carleton University in Ottawa. “CIHA is proud to have partnered with Special Olympics for this exciting commu- nity event,” stated Steele DeFazio, a CIHA
house parent. “It’s important that students are involved in volunteer work and connect with both the Rockland and Ottawa com- munities while they attend CIHA.” Each student taking part in the skate-a- thon created their own web sponsor page and then spent an hour on the ice Saturday, earning their pledges. By the end of the afternoon the students had raised $6412 for the Special Olympics project. In the weeks leading up to the skate-a- thon students also researched the Special Olympics program, including attending an assembly featuring guest athlete, Jacob Mathews, a world champion Special Olym- pian in snowshoeing competition.
