Feedback from a MEGA Day delivered at Blackpool & The Fylde College

“Lots of excitement around completing tasks, showing that students are more capable than they sometimes believe.”

One of the Year 7 pupils who attended had faced significant challenges in school and currently holds the highest number of negative behaviour points. His teachers felt he needed something different, an opportunity to experience learning in a new environment where he could reset, re-engage and shine. And that is exactly what happened. During the MEGA Day, he threw himself into every activity. He showed focus, creativity and real determination, particularly during the Sphero coding robots and micro:bit sessions. Staff said he interacted positively with others, grew in confidence as the day went on and even said he was “having a really good time,” something he wanted to share with his peers. For his teachers, the transformation they witnessed was not only encouraging. It was significant. “It was clear that the opportunities provided on the MEGA Day had a meaningful impact on him, both academically and personally.” Stories like this show what TechFirst and MEGA Hubs is all about: opening doors, creating moments of possibility and helping young people see what they are truly capable of.

“Events like this build confidence, creativity and real-world problem‑solving skills.”

“The information presented linked back to real life experiences and knowledge.”

“Our students have learned through hands-on learning opportunities and exposure to real- world problem- solving activities.”

“As technology continues to reshape the world of work, it’s vital that young people have access to the skills they need to succeed.”

“It has given our pupils the chance to engage, innovate,

and apply their learning in real- world contexts.”
