Building strong neighbourhoods that are safe, vibrant and resilient is key to Community Development success. Below are the 4 key elements to providing these spaces:
The needs of the community underpin the approach to community development and place making. Developments should deliver a diverse and significant range of aordable housing dwellings with an emphasis on a mix of social and aordable accommodation options.

Design that increases feelings of safety and security

Emphasis should be on providing long-term, quality, social and aordable housing to support lower income households to live close to services, transportation, and jobs. Significant emphasis on the sustainability of the community and opportunities to support formal and informal resident connections are underpinned by quality, durable and long-lasting design. Emphasis on the ground-floor open areas, driven by a vision to support an integrated neighbourhood comprising a diversity of people. Designs supporting community development should include provision for accessible, welcoming spaces on HCA sites, where residents and the broader community can gather, engage, access information and services, socialise, participate, learn and grow. The common spaces and the engagement activities that occur there, should be designed to attract integration between not only social tenants, aordable tenants but their broader neighbors from the local neighborhood. Spaces will include the community rooms, onsite outdoor well landscaped open spaces that encourage socializing and community gatherings along with co-located oces.
