À l’affût du moindre murmure, l’architecte d’intérieur Stéphane Parmentier écoute la pierre. Ici, elle lui conte l’histoire d’un lieu parisien d’exception en quête d’un nouvel équilibre. Le designer d’espaces et d’objets se positionne alors comme un médiateur, qui rétablit le dialogue entre héritage et modernité, faste et substantiel, intimité et volumes. Attentive to the softest murmur, interior designer Stéphane Parmentier listens to stone. Here, it tells him the story of an exceptional Parisian place in search of a new balance. The designer of spaces and objects sees himself as a mediator who re-establishes the dialog between heritage and modernity, opulence and substance, intimacy and volume.
P lénitude et justesse. Deux valeurs qui semblent nous enlacer quand on découvre l ’intérieur de cette somp- tueuse adresse parisienne. Classée monument historique, la législation interdisait à Stéphane Parmentier toute modi- fication structurelle du plan. Cela n’était pas pour déplaire au designer, profondément subjugué par le patrimoine ar- chitectural dont il était le témoin privilégié. Afin de valoriser moulures sculptées, plafonds remarquables et fresques du XVIII e siècle, l ’architecte habilla les murs d’un blanc lustral. Ce dernier non seulement éclaire, mais vivifie également un héritage alors en dormance. Telle une vibration, le blanc anime l ’ambiance et l ’ancre dans le présent. Une nouvelle spontanéité scénographiée avec le renfort d’un mobilier aux inspirations brutalistes, essentielles presque terre à terre. Le bronze patiné, le travertin non rebouché et les céramiques sculpturales de l ’artiste Bruno Gambone sou- lignent ainsi les codes d’un classicisme puissant mais sen- sible, réinventé par Stéphane Parmentier.
P lenitude and appropriateness. Two values that seem to embrace us upon exploring the interior of this splendid Parisian address. Since this is a listed historical building, the legislation forbade Stéphane Parmentier from making any structural modifications of the plan. This in fact appealed to the designer, who was deeply impressed by the architec- tural heritage to which he was privileged to bear witness. To highlight the sculpted moldings, remarkable ceilings and 18 th century frescoes, the architect adorned the walls with a glos- sy shade of white. The latter not only illuminates but also in- vigorates a previously dormant heritage. Like a vibration, this white enlivens the atmosphere and embeds it firmly the present. A new sense of spontaneity is created with the help of furniture inspired by brutalist, essential, almost down- to-earth elements. The patinated bronze, the unsealed tra- vertine tiling and the sculptural ceramics of the artist Bruno Gambone accentuate the aesthetic codes of a powerful yet sen- sitive classicism, subtly reinvented by Stéphane Parmentier.
