T his apartment radiates a contagious sense of joy and exercises a strong force of attraction on every visitor. Wherever you look, a beautifully light atmosphere intensi- fies the feel-good vibe. This all-pervasive light – strongly enhancing the quality of life and well-being in this home – was one of the main objectives of the renovation. Providing it with a new realm to rule over implied removing all the obstacles represented by non-supporting walls and obsolete corridors. The dining room and living room were therefore combined to rationalize and enlarge the living areas. To avoid any risk of vitamin D deficiency, natural light is invited to sneak in everywhere. The living room is thus separated from the kitchen by a screen made of natural materials rather than an opaque partition. In the same vein, several custom-made skylights were created for the night areas and the bathroom to maximize sunlight. Previous somewhat dull and uninspiring, the apartment has been transfigured by a play on perspective cleverly orchestrated by architect Xavier de Saint Jean. From every angle, the gaze is guided towards a multitude of shimmering and radiant visual stimuli on several levels.
V ecteur d’une allégresse communicative, cet appartement exerce sur chacun de ses visiteurs un véritable pouvoir d’attraction. Partout où l ’on se trouve, une clarté franche et ravissante se fait la complice de notre bonne humeur. Cette luminosité traversante – améliorant fermement la qualité de vie et le bien-être au sein de ce foyer – constituait l ’un des obj- ectifs primordiaux de la rénovation. Af in de lui of frir un nouveau royaume sur lequel régner, il fallait alors abattre les obstacles que représentaient les murs non porteurs et couloirs obsolètes. Salle à manger et salon furent donc réunis pour rationaliser et augmenter les surfaces de vie. Pour éviter toute carence en vitamine D, la lumière naturelle est invitée à se fauf iler partout. Ainsi, ce n’est pas une cloison opaque mais un claus- tra en matériaux naturels qui sépare la pièce à vivre de la cuisine. Dans la même optique, plusieurs verrières furent réalisées sur mesure du côté des espaces nuit et de la salle de bains pour maximiser l ’ensoleillement de l ’appartement. Alors qu’il présentait un encéphalogramme plat jusqu’ici, le logement se métamorphosa grâce à un jeu de perspectives savam- ment orchestré par l ’architecte Xavier de Saint Jean. Peu importe où l ’on se place, notre regard est guidé vers une multitude de stimulations sur plusieurs niveaux, entre ref lets et éclats.
