THE COMING LORD

Hymn by a Former Student of the Bible Institute Tune: “Stella”

GOD of love, Thine eyes look down On blood-stained field and shattered town; The widow’s tears, the orphan’s cry, The wounded soldier’s agony, Are known to Thee. Thy children’s woes Are not forgot: their Father knows. Great Judge of all, defend the right; Cause right to triumph by Thy might. Our righteousness we dare not plead; Yet save us in our utmost need. Our sins are many in Thy sight: Forgive us, and defend the right. For those we love, O Lord, we ask That thou wilt help them in their task: ’Tis Thine tov save alive or kill; Bring them safe home, if such Thy will.

And may they trust, amid the strife, In Christ, who gives eternal life. ' Lord God of hosts, whose mighty will Makes wrath of man to praise Thee still, By this shed blood, these bitter tears, Prepare the coming of those years When righteousness and peace shall reign O’er hill and valley, sea and plain. Jehovah God, Thy promise stands, Whate’er the fate of kings or lands. Before the dawn the night grows dark: Awake Thy Church on earth to mark, ’Mid lust and hate, ’mid fire and sword, The nearness of her coming Lord. C arment U rquhart . India, June, 1915.

THE FALL TERM

Auspicious Opening of the Bible Institute Training School

"I \ TITH the largest and most enthusias- -* * tic body of students we have ever had at this season of the year, the fall term of the Institute Training School opened on Monday, October 4. The first hour of the new term was one of de lightful devotion, with special{prayer for the party of five former students on their way to China and Japan. The earnest ness and enthusiasm of the students is the source of much pleasure and inspiration to the members of the Faculty, and the promise is for a joyful time among all those connected with the school, in what ever capacity, during the coming months. As this paragraph is being written, in time for the December magazine, 173 students

have enrolled, ninety-one of whom have entered for the first term, and it is ex pected that many others are yet to come. The popular Friday evening classes, to which the general public is invited, have opened with great promise, the audience on each of the first two evenings num bered* about 1200 persons. On /each occa sion Dr. Evans delivered an illustrated lectdfe, “A Trip Through Bible Lands,” showing many attractive pictures and tell ing many things of great interest con cerning the Holy Land. During the earlier hour of the evening Mr. Hunter lectured on “Prayer,” and the lecture of Dr. Evans was followed by Dr. Torrey’s exposition of the International Sunday School lesson.
