Heb. 13:5; John 13:1. PRACTICAL POINTS (1) Here we have the hurt in the heart . of God made by a heartless people, laid bare. (2) It is^not the goodness in man, but the grace in God that makes salvation possible. (3) God lavishes His love upon a law­ less people. (4) Israel, as a son of God, became the servant of Satan. (5) The bent to backsliding is a proof of the crook in human nature. ( 6 ) “How can I give them up” is the cry of a broken heart. (7) The Lord chastens His children that they may learn fo love Him. ( 8 ) God’s love was manifested in His re­ luctance to renounce the rebels. (9) Contrast “God gave His Son” (John 3:16) with “Gbd gave them over,” Rom. 1:28.

He guided with His hand; He drew them with cords of love, but their stubborn hearts were hard and they went on in their backsliding compelling God’s severe judgment, vs. 1-7.
