Platts Harris Ltd has been in business since 1913 and celebrated its centenary year in 2013.

The Company carries an extensive range of new, used and demonstration machinery in stock, together with a large stock of fast moving and common parts to ensure they keep their customers going all year round. They operate a 7 days a week service during the in-season periods with extended opening hours during peak periods. All the service engineers and parts staff are fully trained to the very highest level and have all the latest technical equipment that is required to work on the state of the art machinery provided to their customers. Platts Harris has 54 members of staff with over 800 years combined experience, including 20 Service Technicians with mobile workshops and diagnostic equipment, 8 Parts Counter Staff and 10 Area Sales Managers. The Company had a turnover of over £21 million in 2013 and carries
a wholegoods machinery stock of over £4 million from over 40 main machinery and parts suppliers. Platts Harris also has the added benefit of being part of Lookers plc., which had a turnover of £2.46 Billion in 2013. This gives them financial backing and stability with access to group resources in terms of HR, Health and Safety, Legal and Accountancy personnel, together with very attractive company vehicle purchases for service vans, cars etc. The largest part of Platts Harris business is by far their New Holland franchise for both Agricultural and Construction machinery. New Holland offer a full range of tractors from a 21HP compact tractor, right up to a flagship 669HP articulated agricultural tractor. The New Holland Combine Harvester range covers all types and sizes of farms, from the TC5040 for the small acreage farmer, up to the award winning and innovative CR10.90 for the larger grower. There is also a range of Telescopic Handlers to suit every need and requirement.
The company operates out of two branches situated in Tuxford, Nottinghamshire and Darley Dale, Derbyshire. The main activities include the sales, service and parts supply of Agricultural, Groundcare and Construction Machinery throughout the counties of Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, South Yorkshire, West Lincolnshire and North Leicestershire. Platts Harris hold main machinery franchises for New Holland Agriculture, Groundcare and Construction Machinery, Ransomes Jacobsen and Iseki Professional groundcare machinery, Bomford Turner, Hardi, Joskin, Kawasaki, Marshall, Opico, Reco, Shelbourne Reynolds, Teagle, Vicon, Dennis/Sisis, IPU, Etesia, Greenmech, Avant, Shibaura, Muthing and other leading suppliers. The parts portfolio includes Stihl, Honda, Westwood, Draper, Dickies, Martin
Lookers / Platts Harris History Timeline 1913 – Frank Harris started his Blacksmith’s business. 1926 – Platts opened their first branch in Doncaster. 1950 – Frank Harris’s son John started to expand the Harris company.
1972 – Dick Malone started with Harris’s at the Tuxford depot as an apprentice and is our longest serving member of staff.
2011 Golf and Turf Machinery became part of the Platts Harris Group.
1985 – Platts sold 150 new combines out of 4 branches and became the largest New Holland dealer in Europe.
1981 – The Darley Dale branch was opened.
2004 Platts Harris appointed Ransomes Jacobsen dealers, purchasing the last remaining Ransomes Jacobsen franchises sites in the country.
1989 Harris became part of the Lookers Group and Platts Harris Ltd was merged and run as one company selling Ford New Holland.
1977 – The Group moved into agricultural machinery dealerships which had similar trading characteristics and sell outside the car manufacturers franchise rules applicable at the time. This is when it took over the Platts Group from the Platts family which consisted of 3 branches.
1970 – Harris acquired the Tuxford outlet when he started selling Ford tractors.
2012 Platts Harris Golf and Turf Machinery won Turfcare Dealer of the year 2013 Platts Harris celebrates its Centenary Year.
