PUMPKIN CARVING 101 Pumpkin carving is a popular tradition, especially during the Halloween season. Here’s a basic guide to pumpkin carving:

MATERIALS NEEDED: Pumpkin: Choose a pumpkin with a smooth, even surface and a sturdy stem. Carving Tools: You can use specialized pumpkin carving kits available in stores or basic household items like a serrated knife, small saw, scoop, and carving tools. Template: You can find pumpkin carving templates online or use the templates below. Just scan the barcode to go to our website and download the pdf. PREPARATION: Choose a clean, flat surface to work on. Place newspapers or a plastic tablecloth to catch the pumpkin guts and make cleanup easier. PUMPKIN SELECTION: Choose a pumpkin that suits the size and design you have in mind. Look for a pumpkin with a flat bottom so it sits securely. CUTTING THE LID: Cut a hole around the stem of the pumpkin, angling the knife slightly inward so that the lid doesn’t fall inside. Remove the lid and set it aside. CLEANING THE INSIDE: Use a scoop or your hands to remove the seeds and stringy flesh from inside the pumpkin. Scrape the inner walls to create a smooth surface for carving.

TRANSFERRING THE DESIGN: If you have a template, print it and tape it onto the pumpkin’s surface. Use a poking tool or a pin to outline the design by creating small holes along the template lines. This will serve as a guide for carving. CARVING: Use a small serrated knife or a specialized carving tool to carefully cut along the dotted lines you’ve created from the template. Start by cutting out the smaller details and work your way to larger areas. Take your time and use steady, controlled motions to avoid accidents. FINISHING TOUCHES: After carving, gently push the cut pieces out from the inside. Use a scraper tool to clean up rough edges and create a polished look. LIGHTING: Place a battery-operated candle or tea light inside the pumpkin to illuminate the design. Avoid using a real candle to reduce the risk of fire. Once you’ve carved your pumpkin, you can display it proudly on your porch, at a Halloween party, or as part of your seasonal decorations.
