BETTER TOGETHER My Wife, My Best Friend

In life’s journey, a profound connection exists that exceeds companionship — the bond between best friends. Best friends are not just individuals who share laughter and joy; they are the foundation of support, listening without judgment, offering assistance without being asked, and embracing others with all of their flaws. My best friend is my wife, and through our shared experiences, I have understood the true essence of friendship. June 8 marks National Best Friends Day, in which we celebrate the special people who stand by our sides no matter what. The support a best friend can offer is priceless and irreplaceable. A best friend is special, holding our secrets, the good moments, and some moments we may not be proud of. National Best Friends Day is a time to recognize these one-of-a-kind individuals who never forsake us. My wife embodies the qualities of an ideal best friend that anyone would be lucky to have. She is the first person I turn to with every triumph and accomplishment, knowing that her love and understanding will always lift me. Her acceptance of my faults and her infinite patience reassure me that I am loved for who I am. Whether celebrating moments of joy or weathering storms of adversity, she stands by my side, sharing my interests and allowing me to pursue my passions. One of the most remarkable aspects of our friendship is our mutual appreciation for each other’s unique qualities and experiences. We are from entirely different backgrounds and cultures; she is from Ukraine and the former Soviet Union. We have embraced each other’s cultural differences and personal histories. My wife’s resilience in economic struggles and her family’s journey fleeing Russian aggression shows her immense strength. Her ability

to find gratitude in every circumstance inspires me to approach life with a similar mindset. I feel very

blessed that I found someone who understands me and whom I can understand as well. We appreciate each other’s differences and celebrate them. We allow one another to have a sense of individuality, making us stronger. Together, we have navigated life’s challenges, drawing strength from each other’s presence. Our shared memories, specifically our travels together, hold a special place in our hearts. Among all the beautiful destinations we have explored, Prague, where we vacationed after getting engaged, remains a cherished place, as it was where we exchanged vows and embarked on this journey of marriage together. The breathtaking views of the city combined with the crisp weather mirrored the beauty of our relationship. As I reflect on the remarkable bond I share with my wife, my life partner, closest confidant, and dearest friend, I am filled with gratitude. In celebrating this particular day, I am reminded of how she enriches my life with her unwavering support, boundless love, and continued companionship. I know I will cherish and nurture our extraordinary bond forever. Happy National Best Friends Day to my beloved wife and best friend! – Gary L. Medlin, Esq.

HOSTING THE ULTIMATE OUTDOOR MOVIE NIGHT Moonlit Movie Magic

Whether it’s blocking pucks during a street hockey game or checkmating chess hustlers at the park, traditionally indoor activities take on an entirely new feel and flavor when taken outside. While a rare sight these days, movie-goers worldwide used to enjoy cinema from the comfort of their cars at drive-in theaters. These made a brief resurgence during the pandemic, but now that movies are rolling in theaters again, the fad has begun to die off. These days, if you want to watch a movie, it seems like you are limited to three options: Watching it at the theater, on your TV, or on your phone or tablet. Now, I think we can all agree that watching a movie outside on your phone does not make for a great cinematic experience. Debtrette, a TikTok influencer and mom, has a suggestion. She put a spin on an old classic — family movie night — by holding it in her backyard with all the conveniences you would expect at a movie theater — like an air mattress, pillows, and blankets!

If you are looking for a fun way to spruce up a traditional movie night, what better way than to bring it outside under the stars? Here are some necessities to make your moonlight movie night truly magical: • A portable projector screen, like a sheet on a clothesline • Portable movie projector • Candy, popcorn, and beverages • Some outdoor seating and cushions • Lamps, lanterns, or candles • Warm blankets • The perfect movie to bring it all together You can find screens and projectors to fit any budget, and your movie selection will depend on the crowd. Just make it fun: Lie back on the grass and watch “Antz” or lounge in the pool while watching “Jaws”! The key is to make the experience unforgettable, and all who share in it will be thankful for your effort to make it all possible.

FLY FIREARM-FREE Avoid a UCW Charge in Texas Airports

Utilize a brightly colored carabiner. A practical tip for travelers who frequently carry firearms is to attach a brightly colored carabiner to the bag’s handle. This serves as a visual reminder that a gun is in the bag. When removing the firearm, also remove the carabiner to signify its absence. Stay informed about TSA regulations. Familiarize yourself with TSA guidelines regarding firearms and other prohibited items. Adhering to these regulations can help prevent unintentional violations and subsequent legal consequences. Take prompt action if arrested. In the unfortunate event of being arrested for a UCW violation, it is essential to cooperate with authorities and seek legal representation promptly. Addressing the situation responsibly can mitigate potential fines, TSA penalties, and placement on a no-fly list. Ultimately, the best way to avoid UCW charges at Texas airports is to refrain from carrying firearms in any travel bag. Travelers can ensure a hassle-free journey while avoiding legal complications by prioritizing safety, compliance with regulations, and proactive measures.

When traveling through airports in Texas, particularly at Dallas-Fort Worth airport, where possession of a weapon violations are more frequent, it is crucial to take proactive steps to avoid facing charges for unlawfully carrying a weapon (UCW). Here are some essential tips to ensure a smooth and lawful travel experience. Leave the gun in the car. Before entering the airport terminal, ensure that any firearms are securely stored in your vehicle. It is illegal to bring firearms into airport terminals, so leaving them behind is the first step in compliance. Check your bag before security. Before reaching the security checkpoint, thoroughly inspect your carry-on bag to ensure it does not contain prohibited items, including firearms. Take a moment to double-check for any forgotten items that could lead to a UCW charge. Avoid removing baggage at security. Once your bag is on the conveyor belt for X-ray screening, refrain from attempting to remove it. Doing so may arouse suspicion from TSA agents and lead to further scrutiny of your bag.

THE NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF TECHNOLOGY In most countries nowadays, online interactions are an integral part of daily personal communication and work. But a dark shadow looms over the virtual world — cyberbullying. Unlike traditional bullying, cyberbullying operates in a realm where anonymity and distance amplify its impact, leaving victims feeling isolated, alone, and powerless. With the increased usage of social media platforms, messaging apps, and online groups, individuals are more susceptible to harassment, intimidation, and cruelty at the hands of their peers. As society grapples with the complexities of internet culture, understanding and addressing the dynamics of cyberbullying has become imperative to safeguarding the well-being and mental health of individuals in the digital landscape. Particularly prevalent among young people, cyberbullying occurs on social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat through the use of cellphones and computers. This form of harassment is illegal due to its potential to inflict significant harm — tragically, some victims of cyberbullying have resorted to suicide. Texas recognizes cyberbullying as a severe crime. This stance highlights the state’s commitment to addressing cyberbullying through legal measures and societal awareness efforts. 4. Hot Water Is Phenomenal for Your Health?

THE WONDROUS PROPERTIES OF HOT WATER REVIVED AND REVITALIZED

We are aware that water drinkers consume fewer calories than nonwater drinkers, and the link between consuming sweetened beverages and obesity attests to this. Beverage brands may boast the supposedly remarkable attributes of their energy drink and mineral water brands, but none can beat the benefits of water — and there’s research to prove it. Water is necessary to keep our bodies functioning, and drinking enough is essential to live healthily and reach our full fitness potential. However, a new development shows that it is possible to unlock even more of water’s potential — by drinking it hot! Enhanced Weight Loss While many know that drinking enough can make you feel full, it may actually do much more, depending on the temperature of the water and when you drink it. Research shows that drinking water can increase your metabolic rate and daily energy expenditure, which helps you burn calories and lose weight. If you want to lose weight, try drinking some hot water before your meal. Studies also show that drinking hot water 30–40 minutes before you eat can increase your metabolism by 40%, compared to just 30% from drinking

room-temperature water! Additionally, researchers recommend drinking water, heated to at least 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit, to kickstart the day. Cleanse Your System One of the first side effects of drinking hot water is increased body temperature, which can lead to sweating and natural detoxification. Additionally, drinking hot water aids in preventing constipation, bloating, and hemorrhoids and helps break down food faster than cold water.

If you want to lose weight or partake in some natural detoxification, it may be time to incorporate some hot water into your diet. It may be a hot take, but science suggests that ditching soft drinks for some heated H 2 O will benefit your health!
