AERIAL DRONE COMPETITION PRO • RECF

4 Skills Missions

POWER PLANT DIAGNOSTIC TRIALS With the power plant partially restored, a full system inspection is now required to ensure no lingering threats or failures remain. In the Skills Mission Matches, your drone must complete a series of diagnostic tasks that simulate real-world inspection challenges in restricted areas where human access and visual oversight are limited. Your drone will navigate complex pathways, flying through keyholes, small and large panel holes, and under a low-clearance arch. Along the way, it must autonomously identify hidden color markers placed behind panels that simulate coded hazard alerts within the plant. The Ground Disposal Unit Robot will push a containment canister into a designated staging area, allowing the drone to use its downdraft to move the canister into one of three decontamination zones, with each zone representing various levels of radiation shielding. At the end of the match, the drone can land precisely on top of the Robot, completing a coordinated shutdown sequence that reflects real-world drone retrieval protocols. Success in this trial depends on reliable autonomous programming, accurate sensing, and tight coordination between drone and robot systems. SKILLS MATCH OVERVIEW At each event, Teams will have the opportunity to individually complete Autonomous and Piloting Skills Matches. • In Autonomous Skills Matches, the Skills Drone and Robot are entirely autonomously controlled. See <AM1>. • In Piloting Skills Matches, Students pilot their Skills Drone and drive their Robot. Teams will be ranked based on the combined highest Autonomous Skills Mission and Piloting Skills Mission scores at that event. The Team with the top combined score will be the Skills Missions Champion at that event.
