PILOTING SKILLS MISSION RULES <PM1> Piloting Skills Control.

Teams use their controllers to pilot their Drones and drive their Robots during Piloting Skills Matches. Teams may elect to use pre-programmed routines as long as they are initiated using their controllers. <PM2> No resetting during a Piloting Skills Match. Once a Piloting Skills Match starts, the Team may not touch the Drone or Robot except for cases described in <S3> or <SM3>. a. If a Drone crashes during the Match in the Flight Zone, only the Robot may assist the Drone in repositioning the Drone to continue flying. b. If the Drone or Robot becomes Disabled during the Match, the remaining vehicle may continue to score points. <PM3> Piloting Skills Match Stop Time. If a Team wishes to end their Piloting Skills Match early, they may elect to record a Piloting Skills Match Stop Time. This is used for scoring purposes and as a tiebreaker for Skills Challenge Rankings. a. For a team to be eligible to end a Piloting Skills Match early, all Piloting Skills scoring elements must have a non-zero score. If the Drone and/or Robot becomes disabled during the Piloting Skills Match and cannot complete the scoring elements, then the team will receive a Match Stop Time of zero. b. The Match Stop Time is rounded down to the nearest even number. For example, if controllers are set down when the displayed time is 11 seconds, the Match Stop Time is recorded as 10 seconds. If a Team does not finish the Match early, they receive a default Match Stop Time of 0 seconds. c. Teams who intend to attempt a Match Stop Time must “opt-in” by verbally confirming with the Referee prior to the start of the Piloting Skills Match so they can be prepared. If no notification is given prior to the start of the Match, then the Team forfeits their option to record a Match Stop Time. i. This conversation should include informing the Referee which Students will be Piloting the Drone and Driving the Robot at the end of the Match. The Match can only be ended early when these designated Students communicate with the Referee at the end of the Match. ii. The Pilot and Driver will indicate to the Referee that they want to end the Match early by placing their controllers on the Floor (or table at the Skills field if one is provided) after the Drone and/ or Robot comes to rest. The Referee will take note of the time remaining in the Match after the last controller has been placed on the ground.
