Joanne Brunet raised $4400 making «thank you» signs honouring local front-line workers to help the Rockland Food Bank cope with an increased demand for its services from families affected by temporary loss of income because of the temporary shutdown of non-essential businesses due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was not the graduation event they had imagined for themselves when they started classes last September, but the Class of 2020 for Saint Francis Xavier Catholic High School still got to cele- brate the ultimate achievement of their lives as secondary students. The Catholic District School Board of &BTUFSO0OUBSJP $%4#&0 QVU UPHFUIFSB very modified graduation plan for students finishing their final year of school while the COVID-19 pandemic situation continues. “All of our secondary schools have gone above and beyond to ensure that our graduates are celebrated in some special XBZu TUBUFE /BUBMJF $BNFSPO $%4#&0 superintendent of school effectiveness, in a report during the June 9 board meeting. “Every CDSBEO graduate will remember how important they were to us, and how the pandemic did not prevent us from celebrating their great accomplishments.” All CDSBEO schools received individua- lized graduation celebration lawn signs for personal distribution to students and their families. Each sign features the CDSBEO and particular school logos, along with the name of the graduating student. Principals, teachers or other CDSBEO officials delivering the signs were dressed in either formal cap-and-gown or some type of “spirit wear” for the occasion, and observed

The Class of 2020 for Saint Francis Xavier Catholic High School in Hammond still get to celebrate their graduation, even if the event is not quite what they had imagined when they began their final year of high school last September. The Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario provided special individualized Class of 2020 lawn signs, with the names of each graduate on them, for distribution by school principals or other officials to every graduating student, along with their diploma and other commemorative items. —supplied photo pandemic social distancing guidelines.
