WHEN INNOVATION BEGINS IN THE LAB BUT MOVES TO THE MARKETPLACE

2024 AT A GLANCE

COMPANY SPOTLIGHT MATERIALS & RESOURCES MATMERIZE

As Georgia’s innovation economy continues to grow — and more industries establish deep roots in the state — ATDC is scaling its staff, resources, and support to meet rising demand. A thriving startup ecosystem is often fueled by proximity to research universities, capital, and the presence of large corporations committed to innovation. A healthy ecosystem is reflected in the remarkable growth of our portfolio as well as in the number of companies applying to be members of the ATDC portfolio. At this writing, ATDC actively supports 161 young companies. These startups are gaining a competitive edge through access to capital, mentorship, and world-class tech talent, positioning them to outpace peers across the country. HIGHLIGHTS: • Notable ATDC alums including SalesLoft, Sila Nanotechnologies, and Greenlight Financial are high-profile unicorns emerging as leaders of their respective industries. Sila, for example, a manufacturer of supercharged battery materials, employs more than 400 people and raised a Series G round of capital of $375M in 2024. Other noteworthy graduates include Pindrop, recently valued at $935M. Finally, ATDC was once home to ScanTech (NAS:STA) which went public recently following a reverse merger. The company has developed a proprietary Computed Tomography scanning system to detect explosives, weapons, narcotics, and other contraband. • 6.2 billion — the cumulative amount raised in aggregate by active ATDC companies and alumni from angel, venture, federal, state and other funding sources. In the U.S., only Harvard University’s i-Lab reports higher funding figures by its portfolio companies over time. • In 2024’s tight funding market, 24%, or 35 companies, within ATDC’s active portfolio of startups closed funding rounds . • $19.2M was awarded in sum to active ATDC companies including contracts and non-dilutive grants sponsored by: the Department of Defense, Department of Health and Human Services National Institutes of Health, NASA, Department of Transportation, Department of Commerce National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, National Science Foundation, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Energy, and U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Matmerize was founded in 2019 by Georgia Tech professor Rampi Ramprasad and co-founder Chiho Kim. The company is a fast-growing spinout built on over a decade of pioneering research in polymer informatics. Its flagship cloud-based platform, PolymRize™, uses advanced AI and machine learning to accelerate polymer and formulation development. With support from university alliances and Georgia- based partners — including key resources from ATDC — Matmerize has rapidly scaled, doubling revenues year over year and contributing to Georgia’s leadership in materials innovation.

AI & MACHINE LEARNING POWERING THE FUTURE FROM GEORGIA
