One Maag America – Together, as a team, we can accomplish more Dear Team MAAG Americas, In December we shipped over $12 Million in systems and parts. Thank you for many extra hours and last-minute efforts to get product to our customers. As of this writing I do not have final results for the MAAG Group, but the forecast indicated that we will, for the most part, meet our targets for 2022. Stay tuned for a final wrap up. As we wrapped up 2022, we immediately switched to 2023. Our goal is to grow again, and most importantly, improve our on-time performance to our customers. 2022 has not produced any substantial improvements with respect to systems on-time delivery performance. While many of our customers have been appreciative about our efforts and open communication, the bottom line is we are not delivering to our customers requirements. Improving on time delivery will be a major effort in 2023. All departments can/will play a role in this effort. In December MAAG Group bought a company in Germany, Witte Pumps & Technology . Over the coming months the companies will be integrated into a new Gear Pumps business unit. This integration will be led by the managing director and former owner of Witte Pumps & Technology GmbH, Sven Wieczorek .Witte products are made in Germany, close to Hamburg. In the USA there is a team of 6 employees that sells and services customers in the Americas. More details about how Witte will become part of the MAAG Group will be communicated in the coming weeks/months. Cheers - Martin

Feature Product: Large Area Filtration (LAF). A unique product within the MAAG portfolio, and MAAG Americas is the Center of Excellence for this product. Large Area Filtration Systems can provide fine filtration down to 6 microns. To put this into perspective, 8 microns is the average diameter of a red blood cell. While MAAG has offered this technology for many years we see new applications emerging in fields such as filtration for chemical recycling and battery films. The team recently held an LAF product summit in Charlotte. Exciting new ideas emerged including backflush capable LAF systems. Carl Kelley now leads the LAF product line and will drive these projects forward. We see exciting times ahead for the LAF Center of Excellence. The front page features a complete LAF system.

Founded in 1984 Witte develops and manufactures gear pumps and supplies aftermarket parts and services to the chemical, plastic and polymer processing, food and beverage, and pharmaceutical industries. Witte has its production facilities in Germany. Sales offices and service centers are located in the U.S. and China. Unlike MAAG Group, Witte outsources manufacturing of their parts and concentrated on engineering, assembly and service. In Germany at headquarters are ~70 employees and 6 in the USA. The US office located in Georgia focuses on sales, service and sales engineering. MAAG Group – New Acquisition - Witte

Witte’s product portfolio includes pumps, polymer, and industrial pumps. Over the years they have built a comprehensive application portfolio of unique solutions for specialized market segments. Below is a selection of various pump offerings. Feel free to check out the Witte website @ https://www.witte-pumps.com/us/

Two application examples where Witte has built brand recognition where MAAG is not very strong includes the fields of Cannabis Oil and 3D printing. The requirement to pump viscous and sticky cannabis residue out of vacuum is not a simple task. For feed pump and distillate pump requirements, Witte provides a pumping solution in the distillation process. More than 600 pumps are reliable running in a wide range of cannabis applications at US customer plants. 3D printing is one of the most innovative technologies for manufacturing. In addition to devices for home use and for small components, there are now suppliers who offer 3D printers for large-format, industrial productions. Pulsation or lack of pressure in the melt stream are often the limiting factors when it comes to large-area prints. The process of 3D printing is very similar to extrusion. To meet the high requirements, Witte has designed the EXTRU series. It has a compact design, light weight, high repeatability and absolute precision. With a dead weight of only 5 kg, it is also suitable for direct mounting on the print head.

Hamburg is Germany’s second largest city after Berlin with a population of 1.85 Million. Hamburg is also called city state within the German Republic. The name Hamburg comes from the first permanent building on the site, a castle (burg in German) which the Emperor Charlemagne ordered constructed in AD 808. Hamburg was destroyed and occupied several times. In 845, 600 Viking ships sailed up the River Elbe and destroyed Hamburg. In 1030, the Polish burned down the city and from 1201 to 1214 the Danish ruled. The Black Death killed at least 60% of the population in 1350. Hamburg experienced several great fires in the medieval period. Much going on historically as with many European cities. Witte’s Hometown – Hamburg / Germany

Hamburg features more than 2,500 bridges within city limits (that’s more than London, Amsterdam and Venice combined). Life does involve water in many aspects. In 1962 the city experienced a major flood disaster, over 300 people died. Hamburg always played a key role in trade for Germany, it is still Germany’s largest harbor and features a UNESCO world heritage site with the so called “Speicherstadt” a city of warehouses built between 1883 – 1927.

A boat trip around one of the world's most powerful universal ports is at the heart of any successful trip to Hamburg. Followed by a stroll through the Old Town, with its beautiful angular buildings and 17th-century town houses, original restaurants and bars. The Speicherstadt buildings are the world's largest single complex of traditional brick warehouses rest on thousands of oak supports and are intersected by narrow waterways. Just a stone's throw away is the famous Elbe Philharmonic Hall, the city's striking landmark and concert hall. A very different kind of charm is on offer in the alternative quarter of St. Pauli with the Reeperbahn, its famous red-light district. Or there's the fish market in Altona, where fresh fish is auctioned every Sunday at the crack of dawn. Almost everywhere you can take a stroll along scenic waterside promenades.

Customer Success Story

Nicholas Pinto , Industrial Pump Sales, along with the tenacity of the sales and technical team accomplished a huge win for our customer as well as Maag Americas. The official Purchase Order in hand was a celebratory moment made possible due to perseverance. In Nicholas’ own words: June 2022, I started talking to a prospect customer with an interesting application—rocket fuel. The customer was upset with their current pumps and system. The issue was pulsation from the progressive cavity pumps they were currently using, causing the fuel to have a variation in the overall composition of the mixture. They asked MAAG if we could offer a solution! They had been turned down by other companies because they thought it was too hard of an application. They said if we could engineer a solution, they would buy fromus. The composition of the fuel made this a very difficult application. The particle size and (high) viscosity of the mixture made us change the configuration several times. Normally with a high viscosity material you heat it up to make it flow easier. In this instance we couldn’t because it’s combustible fuel. Throughout this process I worked with the application teams in both Switzerland and Italy to go over every detail of the project. We had several revisions, but we finally identified a solution: A custom configuration of a dual drive (recycling style) Extrex. We expect the project start up to occur early September 2023. A special thanks to Switzerland team, Felix Muggli, Jonathan Hummer, and our very own Lloyd Sharp for helping at every step of the process. Many others deserve thanks as well, as this was clearly a team effort.

MAAG Team Hobbies 4 Reasons Why Skateboarding is a Great Hobby – According to Matt McMinn Matt McMinn, Project Manager, Kent

Matt McMinn, who recently joined Maag, has a lifelong love of skateboarding beginning at the age of 14, when his best friend encouraged him get “on board”. Today he and that same friend own their own skate shop. While Matt may no longer be found doing rail slides and kickflips around Kent, he still enjoys taking his board out for a cruise either on his own or with his kids. Matt shared some of the reasons why skateboarding has been such a great hobby and why he is hoping to bring back a sense of community to the local skateboard scene.

• Skateboarding is a great fitness activity. When Matt first started skating, he would spend hours a day practicing tricks until they were mastered. It helps build core muscles, improve balance and is way more fun than a treadmill! There are minimal costs for equipment and lots of options depending on whether you are looking to just cruise the streets of your community or get a little more adrenaline seeking with skating street obstacles or transition. • The skateboarding social scene and community have something for everyone. When Matt was younger, his close- knit group of friends used to skate around downtown Kent. Matt still keeps in touch with most of his original skateboarding friends. While he claims that he didn’t meet his wife directly through skateboarding, he admits that he would never have met her if it weren’t for his skateboarding ties. Skateboarding has a tendency to filter out superficial people leaving you with those that are earnest and genuine. Skateboarders are always trying to help each other – whether to offer suggestions on how to nail a new trick or to troubleshoot equipment. • Skateboarding requires perseverance and teaches tenacity. Because of his stick-to-itiveness, in the late 1990’s Matt found himself competing in Canada against some of people that ended up becoming pros in this increasingly popular sport. Tricks take lots of blood, sweat and tears to perfect and these qualities have filtered into other aspects of Matt’s life including both his career and family life.

Matt opened his own skateboard shop, Dirty Skate Co. in 2021 because he noticed that there didn’t seem to be the same community that he had and enjoyed growing up. He also noticed that lots of kids were asking questions on social media about best types of boards to buy. Matt felt the need to create a place for today’s kids to get that sense of community that he had and to learn more about skateboarding. • The skateboarding culture is creative. You can express yourself through skateboarding by style of dress, your board’s artwork, your style of skating, and by sharing your knowledge and talents through video. With Matt’s local independent skateboard shop, he helps to design boards, clothing, swag and marketing material to fuel his creative side, while also inspiring others in the skateboarding community.
