ART, AND MORE Opened in September 2017, Zeitz MOCAA is Africa’s largest museum of contemporary art. The museum’s galleries showcase both temporary exhibitions and a permanent collection. Complementing its exhibition spaces, the museum features the BMW Centre for Art Education and the Atelier, a creative hub for emerging Cape Town artists. T he Silo Hotel is situated above Zeitz MOCAA (Museum of Contemporary Art Africa) — a steel and glass testament to the passionate inventiveness of the continent. This extraordinary space was designed by architect Thomas Heatherwick during the reimagining of the historic grain silo complex, an intersection of two worlds — past and present. A NEW HEIGHT OF LUXURY A living art gallery, The Silo showcases contemporary works by artists from Africa and the diaspora, with a private collection of over 300 pieces of African art. From the public areas to the luxury rooms — even the underground car park leads to an art gallery. The Granary Café and intimate Willaston Bar echo this visual appreciation, while the suites, all individually designed, offer both comfort and creativity, softly bathed in natural light through pillowed windows that frame both sky and ocean.
As the sun sets, The Silo truly comes into its own. The rooftop has become Cape Town’s most sought-after evening destination, where sundowners are a celebrated ritual. From this elevated imaginarium, guests watch as the sun slips beyond the horizon and harbour lights compete with stars to illuminate the night sky.
