Washington) In January 2022, the Sauk-Suittle Tribe filed a complaint against the City of Seattle in Tribal Court alleging infringement of rights related to the construction and operation of three dams on the Skagit River, blocking upstream and downstream passage of important migratory fish. In the District Court, the City of Seattle sought an injunction that would prevent the Tribal Court from exercising jurisdiction over the matter. The court denied the Tribe’s Motion to Dismiss but stayed the matter until after the Tribal Court could determine its own jurisdiction. Topics: Natural Resources; Tribal Court; Jurisdiction
