INTERNATIONAL BOXING HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE RUSS ANBER HAS LEFT HIS MARK ON JUST ABOUT EVERY FACET OF THE SWEET SCIENCE By Adam Abramowitz I n an over-45-year career that has taken him all around Russ Anber : “Actually not. In fact, my dad was a big baseball fan. He introduced us to baseball early. We knew that the Expos were coming to Montreal in ’69. By ’68, we were already fans waiting for them to come. I can’t remember the games, but I remember talking to my friends and being a fan of the ’68 World Series when Denny McLain of the Tigers faced ALL IN ONE the world, Russ Anber has been a jack-of-all-trades in boxing: an in-demand trainer, cutman, hand-wrapper and broadcaster. The Quebec native has guided two fighters from amateur to world titleholder (Otis Grant and David Lemieux) and has been a key figure in the corners of Roy Jones Jr., Jean Pascal, Vasiliy Lomachenko, Oleksandr Usyk and countless others. In addition, Anber is the founder of Rival Boxing, one of the most prominent boxing equipment companies in the sport. On June 14, Anber will be inducted in the International Boxing Hall of Fame, making him the first Canadian trainer to get the call. He will also be releasing a memoir on boxing, Unrivaled , in July. Although 2026 will definitely be a year of honors, Anber is far from calling it a day. As busy as he’s ever been, he remains a force in the sport and can be found in the corners of prominent trainers from Buddy McGirt to Marc Ramsay to Joe Gallagher to Joe McNally. Anber spoke to The Ring about his induction and what drew him into the boxing life. The Ring: You grew up in Quebec during the 1960s and ’70s. Was boxing a part of your family?
