CONYERS-COVINGTON (GA) ALUMNI CHAPTER 2025 Kappa Koffeehouse Town Hall The Political and Civic Action Committee of the Conyers- Covington (GA) Alumni Chapter held its spring 2025 “Kappa Koffeehouse” town hall meeting on Tuesday, March 25, 2025. This forum’s topic was Community Safety and Mental Health. This event was held at The Center, located next to the Newton County Chamber of Commerce. This free event was open to the entire public for the citizens of Conyers and Covington Georgia along with the surrounding counties. The purpose of this town hall was to bring the community together to discuss Mental Health, Community Safety and the laws passed to help us. In attendance were Law enforcement, the School Superintendent and Mental Health professionals to answer questions.
Our distinguished panelists consisted of seated from left to right, Brother, Dwayne L. Jones, CEO Preventive Measures, Inc. & Chairman, The PM Foundation, Dr. Laklieshia Izzard, Shekinah Counseling founder, Ms. Jennifer S. Hibbard, Chief Executive Officer of View Point Health, Sheriff Ezell Brown, Newton County Sheriff, Newton County Sheriff Office, Chief of Police, Philip Bradford, Covington Police Department, Representative Sharon Henderson, State House of Representatives District 113 and Dr. Duke Bradley III, Superintendent Newton County Schools. This was an interactive forum which allowed citizens to meet one- on-one with local and national professionals to obtain more education about community safety and mental health services available. Some
of the topics discussed included school safety regarding if an active shooter enters our public schools and information on recent laws passed in Georgia to keep students safe. Law enforcement shared information about new technology being utilized in the community to keep citizens safe and how they interact with mental health individuals when called. Mental Health professionals educated the public on the various resources available to anyone needing help with family members facing mental health challenges. Event organizer, Elder J.B. CCAC Diamond Klassik 5K Run The Conyers-Covington (GA) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. is proud to announce the resounding success of its inaugural Diamond Klassik 5K Run, held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at the scenic Rockdale River Trail. This exciting event brought together community members, fitness enthusiasts, and fraternity brothers for a day of health, unity, and purpose. Participants of all ages gathered in support of wellness, fellowship, and community engagement—a mission that lies at the heart of Kappa Alpha Psi’s values. “This was a truly exciting moment not only for our chapter but for the broader community,” Steven D. Morrison, member of the Conyers-Covington Alumni Chapter. “We are thrilled by the turnout and the positive energy that made the first-ever Diamond Klassik 5K such a memorable occasion.” With strong participation and community support, the event laid the foundation for what is set to become a highly anticipated annual tradition. Plans are already underway for next year’s 5K, promising an even bigger and better experience in 2026. The Conyers-Covington Alumni Chapter remains committed to uplifting the local community through service, education, and brotherhood, and looks forward to continued success with future events.
