Clubs Tasmania

After four months as Clubs Tasmania project manager, I’m now starting to feel firmly entrenched in the role. I’ve had the opportunity of meeting so many different people and clubs around the state, however I still have more of the north scheduled for January and February 2023. Clubs Tasmania held several different sessions throughout 2022 to help clubs stay educated and informed. However, I want to hear your thoughts on what you would like to see the focus on in 2023 and beyond. If you have an issue that you see could support your club or the sector, please contact Clubs Tasmania on 13001CLUBS or email tom@tha.asn.au As the sector rebounds from Covid-19, we know priorities continue to be strong governance, effective financial management, inclusion and diversity, infrastructure that supports increased participation and viable and sustainable clubs. Priorities for clubs continue to be ‘on field’ getting teams on the park and ‘off field’, finding enough volunteers and making and saving money. Our work in 2023 will focus on these priorities. • Advocate for, promote and engage the community club sector • Keeping the community club sector informed • Upskilling of sector and building capability • Promoting a platform of ‘Thinking Differently’

they feel like they belong and safe. We have held one information session in November, and we received a great response from a lot of state sporting operators. The second session will take place in March 2023.

More recently we carried out a pilot course alongside Asthma Australia to the sporting sector in the Kingborough community, to assist people understand the importance of Asthma in young people playing sport. We hope that Asthma Australia can secure funding to run these courses around the state in 2023 and offer everyone an Asthma pack for their club.

In the back end of the year, I held several different sessions to educate the sector. Firstly, we held a Liquor Webinar to assist operators with any questions or concerns which they might have had or needed addressing. This session was well received from the operators and we will be holding these on a regular basis moving forward in 2023. The partnership between Clubs Tasmania and Migrant Resource Centre was launched in October. This is a great initiative to try and get young refugees and migrants into playing a sport, and sometimes not always their chosen sport. But it’s also about ensuring
