Business Events Tasmania
Marnie Craig CEO
With 100 business events representing an EEI of over $55 million held across the state in 2022, Tasmania’s business events sector has well and truly fired back up post-pandemic. Finishing the year on a strong note, at the time of writing, the Business Events Tasmania team is preparing for PCOA – the annual Professional Conference Organisers Association conference, which will be held in Hobart from December 11-13. The opportunity to showcase Tasmania to large numbers of Australia’s most influential event organisers and business event decision makers caps off a big year for our organisation. In 2022 we wrapped up our famil program undertaken with the support of Austrade’s Recovery for Regional Tourism Fund, with our team hosting close to 100 delegates from around the country on a number of trips across the state. From north to south, famil delegates learned about the people, product, places and stories of Tasmania. Already we have secured 26 events as a direct result of this famil activity with an EEI of over $13M, and with many more in our sales pipeline we expect this figure to grow in the future. The launch in October of our new brand campaign ‘See Clear Here’ highlighted to our market how truly unique Tasmania is as a business event destination. Focussing on the delegate experience, this campaign invites conference and business event attendees to come to Tasmania where their thoughts will flow at
the pace they are meant to, giving them the time and space to get to the heart of what really matters to ‘See Clear Here’. With striking imagery and a powerful tagline, this campaign builds upon the work that Tourism Tasmania and Brand Tasmania have undertaken to position Tasmania as a destination, whilst also differentiating business events from the leisure market. Complementing this campaign was the launch of our Visionary program to refresh our ambassador program with a focus on Tasmanian Visionaries – those people in our community who have made a difference in their industry by seeing things that others haven’t. Connection to place, community and culture is what sets us apart in a competitive domestic business events market, and formed the strategy for our campaign and program to ensure Business Events Tasmania continues to secure Tasmania’s fair share of business events. As the last sector of the visitor economy to work without COVID restrictions, it has been wonderful to see our state’s business event operators finally experience some consistency after the devastation and disruption of the past few years. Heading into a busy summer period for Tasmanian hospitality and tourism, I would like to take this opportunity to wish THA members and supporters a merry festive season and safe and prosperous 2023 ahead
