Now that a group of volunteers is no

longer doing the heavy lifting, area

of a WEEE (waste electronic and electrical

in wastes being dumped in landfill sites.

The volume of WEEE diverted from

landfill sites has increasedconsiderably this

year, primarily because of the efforts of

volunteers led by Hawkesbury activist

Bonnie Jean-Louis. About 31 tonnes of

electrical and electronic waste had been

collected from April to June, with a total of

20 tonnes being collected in April alone, the

Hawkesbury area recycling committee was

The April number was particularly high

annual spring clean-up collection, area

which oversees recycling in Hawkesbury,

Champlain and East Hawkesbury.

the municipalities that she and her group
