Our Staff Favorite Hallowe

Kristin: Halloween is huge in our family. From the time I was a little girl, my mom would make a big deal about Halloween. I would always have slumber parties, and she would also create adorable treats for everyone. When I had my daughter Addie, this love of Halloween carried over to her. Her first Halloween, she was 6 months old, and we dressed her up as a pumpkin and pushed her around town in a stroller for trick-or-treating. Every year I would make very elaborate handmade costumes up until she stopped trick-or- treating (which may have been

Alyssa: My favorite Halloween tradition is taking my kids trick-or- treating with our best friends who all have kids the same age! I can’t resist a good Reese’s pumpkin, and my favorite scary movie is “I Know What You Did Last Summer.”

later than typically recommended, lol). Over the years, she was the robot Bender from “Futurama,” Sally from “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” a corpse bride, and Bellatrix Lestrange. Her 10th year, she dressed up as a Weeping Angel from “Doctor Who.” She even entered a contest at the mall and won first place for best costume! Halloween was and always will be a very special time for my family!

Courtney: Halloween has always been a huge deal in my family, mostly because my mom absolutely LOVES it. She and her friends started out years ago making their own haunted houses in basements and garages, but over time, it grew into something much bigger. She collects props all year long and has built up quite the collection so by October, she can put together some pretty incredible setups. Last year, they created a haunted house on a friend’s farm, and it turned into a 25-minute experience complete with creepy sound effects, flashing lights, and “actors” jumping out to scare people. The path even wound through a cornfield, which made it extra spooky. Afterward, everyone gathered for a party with food, candy, costumes, and a tractor ride for the kids. It’s one of my favorite traditions because it’s not just about decorations. It’s about the fun and creativity my mom pours into making Halloween special for everyone.

Suzanna: Halloween is my favorite holiday! My favorite Halloween traditions (besides eating candy) are the parts of the season that are crafty and creative and get you into the spooky spirit. Nothing beats carving pumpkins; turning a pumpkin into a goofy or ghoulish masterpiece is always a good time. Especially when you make a little competition out of it with family and friends! And, of course, there’s the hunt for the perfect costume. Brainstorming, planning, and putting together a fun or spooky outfit is a Halloween highlight, and it’s always a blast to show it off and share some laughs with friends and family.
