The Department of Community Education and Recreation is a self funded depart- ment operating under the auspices of the Hudson Board of Education.It is one of the many important educational and enrichment services offered to the Hudson community by Hudson City Schools.
Explorer Zone is the before school and after school child care program for the Hudson City School District. Morning child care begins daily at 6:45 a.m. at East Woods School. Explorer Zone staff chaperones students to their school building each day (walking or bussing). After school child care begins at the end of their school day with students meeting Explorer Zone staff in their school building and walking (or bussing) to East Woods School; after care lasts until 6 p.m. each day. Explorer Zone students enjoy many learning and enrichment opportunities, such as electronics time, table games, art and crafts, as well as active games like gym and playground activities. Explorer Zone offers a home away from home for elementary students. Staffed by adults who have a background in childcare, the Explorer Zone is a safe, fun, active environment to bring students before and after school. Little Hoop Stars Basketball Ages 4-6 Instructor: Jump Start Sports Staff Fee: $125 Introductory basketball for children in Kindergarten and
Pre-K (must be at least 4 years old). Children learn the basics of dribbling, passing, shooting, and defense in a fun, learning-focused program. Hummingbirds Soccer Ages 3-6 Instructor: Jump Start Sports Staff Fee: $120
Children ages 3-6 years old have fun and learn the basics of soccer: dribbling, passing, trapping, shooting, and positioning. Each session consists of instruction in each aspect of the game, participation in fun drills that are designed to teach skills in low competition games. Children are required to wear shin guards. Cleats are optional. Soccer balls provided. Purchase this punch pass for open swim during the winter and spring seasons. Children under the age of 12 need to be supervised by an adult to use the swim punch pass. Adults supervising children will not be required to use a “punch” to enter the pool area. Only individuals swimming will be required to use a “punch” from the pass. Please check in with a lifeguard upon arrival. Locker rooms are available. Pool is closed on most holidays and for various community activities, notifications will be sent via email. Learn-to-Swim LifeCenter Plus swim lessons are Red Cross Learn-to-Swim courses which offer something for everyone! Through a progressive six-level instructional approach participants learn a variety of strokes, including the front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke, and butterfly. Courses are fun and interactive with hands-on training in a small group setting for individualized sessions. All classes take place at LifeCenter Plus located at 5133 Darrow Rd.

In this program, kids explore a variety of introductory topics in engineering, physics, and chemistry as they learn how science can be applied in everyday life. They learn about concepts like bridge construction, the forces of flight, how air pressure can be used to move things, and more! We’ll play a variety of sports and games each week including basketball, floor hockey, flag football, “tennis baseball”, soccer, and traditional “camp” games such as “Pac Man”, “Calling All Cars”, “Army, Navy, Marines”, Capture the Flag, DodgeBall, Kickball, and British Bulldog. Each week your child will build upon their balancing and tumbling skills to do more advanced skills such as backwards rolls, head and handstands and cartwheels by themselves. We will also have more extensive strength and flexibility training each class to see progression in their gymnastics schools. By working on our memorization, they will build self confidence by mastering skills in front of their peers. Hudson Elite Indoor Track Club Grades 9-12 Instructor: Coach Hildebrand Fee $225 HHS Track & Field Coach Hildebrand will head this program designed for sprinters, hurdlers, jumpers and distance athletes. Join the Hudson Rugby Club with teams coming off multiple state championships from the 2024 spring season. Learn the basics of rugby and play a competitive league schedule. Rugby is an excellent sport to complement conditioning for other off season sports. The Hudson Rugby Club fields Boys and Girls Teams in the Ohio High School Rugby League. The program begins in April and concludes in June. Coaches will coordinate to accommodate winter sports schedules. Tuesdays/Thursdays/Weekends April through June | 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. (Approx. time) HCSD Fields Middle School Golf Grades 6-8 Instructor: Jeff Camp Jr. & HHS Golf Coaches Fee: $300 (Includes team hat & Metroparks registration) This program is designed for students who have some golf experience along with knowledge of the rules, etiquette, and pace of play of the game of golf. Weekly group lessons will be led by Jeff Camp Jr., PGA Professional at the Country Club of Hudson and Hudson High School Boys and Girls Golf coaching staff. The Hudson Rugby Club enters its 3rd season of Hudson Youth Rugby Flag League this Spring! This league will allow our young ruggers the opportunity to play in weekly matches. The league is co-ed, noncontact and divided into two divisions: kids in grades K-2 and 3-5. The program includes instructional time prior to match play. Students will work on fundamental skills including running, kicking, space strategy and tea mwork. Traditional Drivers Education Class (in-person) Instructor: National Driver Training School Fee: $479 Conducted by the National Driver Training School, this course includes 24 hours of classroom training and 8 hours of in-car training. Students must be 15 years and 5 months old at the time of registration. Classes meet each week of the session at Hudson High School. Students are responsible for scheduling in-car training with National Driver Training School. Max 24 students. Now a national nonprofit organization with over 900 Registered Providers in all 50 states, Safe Sitter® continues to help build safer communities by providing youth with the skills they need to be safe while home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting. The United States Power Squadrons (USPS) provide basic boating knowledge education to the public. This is accomplished through America’s Boating Course, 3rd Edition (ABC3). This course meet the standards set by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the National Association of Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA). Format includes both Federal and Ohio state-required education. This traditional classroom education format is presented by instructor-use of the ABC3 student manual, nautical teaching aids, and supportive PowerPoint (PPT) visual aids. The PPT presentation is paired with the student manual for two consecutive Saturdays, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 pm. At the end of instruction the second Saturday, there is a closed book proctored final examination. Successful completion of the course is achieved by correctly answering 80% or more of the questions on both the Federal examination and the state supplemental examination. exercise comfortably and safely. Additionally, within the Seated Tai Chi course, forms have been adapted for participants who prefer to remain mostly seated during an exercise class. Many of the forms have been researched and found to be beneficial for improve balance, reduced stress, improved muscle and bone strength, and improved memory. The movements are taught in a progressive manner with time for repetition and fun. IN CONSIDERATION of the Participant being permitted to utilize the athletic facilities, services, equipment, and/or athletic programs of the Hudson City School District, the parent/guardian on behalf of Participant and/or Participant on behalf of myself (if 18 years of age or older) agrees, represents, acknowledges, and understands as follows: By signing on the line below, as parent/guardian of the Participant(s) listed above, or signing below for myself as a Participant (if 18 years of age or older) I agree that Participant is personally responsible for his/her safety while using the facilities, equipment, services and programs of Hudson City School District, and while participating in, observing and/or attending extracurricular activities and/or programs held by Hudson City School District,. Participant affirms he/she is in good health and can participate in all activities and has informed Hudson City School District, of any special considerations or health problems (medications, allergies, etc.) relevant to his/her participation in such activities. COVID-19 is a respiratory disease that can result in serious illness or death. The virus is spread between individuals who are in close contact with each other (within about six feet), primarily through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. It may be possible that individuals can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or eyes.
With full awareness and appreciation of the risks involved, I, parent/guardian on behalf of Participant and/ or Participant on behalf of myself, agree to release the Hudson City School District, Board of Education, its officers, agents, members, and employees (collectively referred to as the “Released Parties”), in their official and individual capacities, from any and all claims, liability, or demands for damages against the Released Parties for any expense, monetary damage, property damage, personal injury, sickness, illness of any nature whatsoever (including physical or emotional),or death, which may be sustained or incurred by Participant in connection with his/her participation and/or related to COVID-19, including as a result of any negligent or reckless acts or omissions of the Released Parties, or any negligent, reckless, willful, or intentional acts or omissions of any other individual. I, parent/guardian on behalf of Participant and/or Participant on behalfof myself, further agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Released Parties from and against any and all costs, expenses, damages, claims, lawsuits, judgments, losses, and/or liabilities (including attorney fees) arising either directly or indirectly from or related to any and all claims made by or against the Released Parties due to bodily injury, death, loss of use, monetary loss, or any other injury from or related to Participant’s use of Hudson City School District facilities, tools, equipment, materials, programs, including the fitness center and both on-site and off-site programs affiliated with Hudson City School District, whether caused by the negligent, reckless, willful, or intentional acts or omissions of the Released Parties or otherwise specifically related to COVID-19.

Payment Payment in full is due at the time of registration. When registering in person,you may use a check, or credit card. Unless otherwise stated, class fees do not include materials or books if required. REMEMBER: a $30 cash fee will be charged for all checks returned for insufficient funds. PLEASE NOTE: Programs are supported by user fees, NOT tax dollars. Cancellations Get the latest updates on www.hudson.k12.oh.us/hcer. When the Hudson City Schools are not in session or are dismissed early due to inclement weather, or public calamity, all daytime, afternoon and /or evening HCER classes will not be held regardless of any changes. Missed classes due to the aforementioned, or other “Acts of God” CANNOT be guaranteed a makeup session or pro-rated refund/credit. If the class for which you are enrolled is changed or canceled, you will be notified by phone and or email. All posted on our website. If you do not hear from us, attend the class as scheduled in this brochure. Refund Policy Refunds are available for classes and activities (unless otherwise specified) provided the class or program has not yet started Should a refund be issued, it will be returned in the form it was first submitted, minus processing fees. In house credits must be used within a one year time frame from the time they were issued. Should you choose to take an in-house credit, we will be unable to issue a refund in any other form. Participants assume the risk of changes in personal affairs, schedules or health when signing up for a class/program. There is a $10 refund processing fee for each class, except for those canceled by HCER. Should you withdraw from a class after it has begun, there will be no refund. No refunds for materials purchased. Allow 3-4 business days for credit card refunds and 2-3 weeks for check refunds. General All participants must sign a registration form either electronically (online registration) or in hard copy before participating in any HCER program. Program Size All programs contain specific size limitations as space is limited. Please confirm space is available, online or calling our office, when registering for a program, as we do not guarantee space is available.
