2024 NVPS Annual Appeal

This is a critical moment to safeguard and enhance public education. Your gift to New Visions for Public Schools will do just that, creating pathways for every student to pursue their passions; every teacher to empower their learners; and every school to serve its community.

Your gift creates pathways for students, teachers, and schools to succeed.

This is a critical moment for sustaining and fortifying public education. Through 35 years of changing administrations and shifting politics, New Visions’ work has provided stable support to strengthen NYC schools. Our broad range of programs and tools enable more students to graduate on time, well-prepared for the future. Here are just three of the paths to success we’re building for students this year:

In 2023-24, NYC Public Schools asked teachers and schools to adopt an ambitious new curriculum for Algebra I. Without strong professional development, educators often face challenges in helping students master essential skills, particularly when adopting new materials. We rose to those challenges, supporting teachers and school leaders to help all 9th graders succeed in Algebra I through effective and well- received math coaching in schools across the city. Our success last year led to an invitation to expand our support, more than doubling the number of schools we serve. Fostering Inspiring and Effective Math Teaching

130 % growth

Based on our success last year, New Visions is expanding Algebra I support from 60 schools to over 140 NYC middle and high schools

The professional learning at New Visions consistently reignites my confidence in my work. Even when I feel drained and uncertain, these spaces recharge me by connecting me with fellow educators and resources that provide ongoing support. I leave

every session feeling more empowered to guide others and improve my practice.

Helping More Students Access Advanced Coursework in High School

College Now provides students at over 400 NYC high schools the chance to take free CUNY courses, increasing the likelihood that students will enroll in college and graduate. We are collaborating with CUNY to expand the number of students accessing College Now, focusing on historically underrepresented groups such as Black and Latino males. Through the New Visions Portal, we are identifying and reaching out to eligible students, providing counselors and CUNY staff with real-time information about application progress to support students through enrollment, and streamlining the application to give more students access to this valuable opportunity.

students and guardians received personalized emails inviting them to apply to College Now, broadening the pool of applicants. 45,000 +

DAVID GANTZ, DIRECTOR/LECTURER, LEHMAN COLLEGE, COLLEGE NOW New Visions' new College Now features have saved me so much time. Before, I used to spend hours taking manual steps to find students eligible for the program—and New Visions’ outreach to students and their families has noticeably increased the number of students enrolling, who might otherwise have gotten lost in the shuffle.

Linking Students and Families in Shelters to Critical Support

New Visions, the Department of Homeless Services, NYC Public Schools, the Department of Social Services, and the Children’s Cabinet are engaged in a groundbreaking collaboration, Every Child and Family is Known, to support Bronx public school students who are living in shelters. Students and their families build a relationship with a school- based advocate who uses the New Visions Portal to capture requests and next steps to address academic, socio-emotional, and economic needs, and a new Family Portal allows guardians to communicate

with the school and request services. This year, we will leverage AI—prioritizing family privacy and safety—to surface patterns of needs so agencies can distribute resources strategically. Our ultimate goal is to help families access benefits such as food, housing, and child care, connecting more families to life-changing services that can provide stability and economic mobility. The initiative is a true collaboration… which is unique in my twenty plus years of experience working in NYC schools to support our most at-risk students and families. This pilot year has already demonstrated increases in students' grades and attendance, and I am confident that… we will be able to make an even greater positive impact on the lives of our children and their families.

1,600

students and families across 111 Bronx schools will be served this year, more than

triple the number reached last year.
