February Digital Magazine-Jacobi

Message from Chris

As we progress through the year, February has proven to be eventful and inspiring!

We celebrated Black History Month, a time to recognize the immeasurable contributions that African Americans have made toward American History. We highlighted Black pioneers in health care and placed a spotlight on our leaders in health care at the facilities. Celebrating Black History Month reminds us of our health system's mission, which focuses on equity and comprehensive, quality health care for all. In February, we hosted our annual Legislative Breakfast. We had the unique opportunity to host our elected officials at the Jacobi campus. It was a successful event. Our central office colleagues provided a plethora of information to educate our electeds about our health system's city, state, and federal updates, focusing on the state budget priorities. I am thankful to all our elected officials who attended for their steadfast partnership. Also, thanks to our dedicated community advisory board chairs and members at Jacobi and NCB and our executive leaders for their collaboration and commitment to community service. In addition to the Legislative Breakfast, we hosted a press conference for Council Member Amanda Farías, who awarded a check for $25K to support Jacobi's Stand Up to Violence program. The Stand Up to Violence (SUV) program is the nation's first hospital-run Cure Violence-based program. Lastly, a special thank you to Council Member Rafael Salamanca Jr., who visited Jacobi to learn about our hospital's services and the comprehensive person- centered care provided for our patients. Conclusively, join me in congratulating Dr. Frederick Nagel and the NCB Emergency Department teams for receiving accreditation from the ACEP Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation Program (GEDA). This accreditation demonstrates that NCB is focused on the highest standards of care for older adults in the Bronx communities we serve. Thank you all for your steadfast commitment to health care. Remember, face masks are still required facility-wide. Keep yourselves, our patients, colleagues, and loved ones safe and healthy.
