Spirit does enter the heart of the believing sinner, but there is never an eradication of the sin nature in this life. The sin nature in us is a constant re minder that we o f ourselves cannot stand before God. The Church, from its earliest beginnings, had within it leaven in doctrine and practice. Leaven was found in the Church at Jerusalem (Acts 5:1; 15:1), at Galatia (Gal. 5:9) and at Corinth (I Cor. 5:6, 7). But praise God for His blessed provision as seen in the perfect type, “Ye shall offer with the bread seven lambs without blemish” (Lev. 23: 18)! Seven is the number of completion, or perfec tion, so that here we see the absolute perfection of Christ which has become the ground upon which the believer stands. In ourselves we could not come to God, but “ He hath made us accepted in the beloved” (Eph. 1:6). The anti-type o f this Feast then is the descent of the Holy Spirit and the formation o f believing Jews and Gentiles into one new man, the true Church of our Lord Jesus Christ. The Son honored and fulfilled the Passover by His death, the Father honored and fulfilled the Firstfruits by raising up Christ from death and the grave, and the Holy Spirit honored and fulfilled the Weeks by His de scent fifty days after the Resurrection o f Christ. This was the inauguration of a new work of grace divinely planned and set forth in type in the Levi- tical Feasts. Last, but certainly not least, is the practical application to the Christian. Leviticus 23:22 reads, “ And when ye reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not make clean riddance of the corners of thy field when thou reapest, neither shalt thou gather any gleaning of thy harvest: thou shalt leave them unto the poor, and to the stranger: I am the Lord your God.” Observe the subject of the gleanings and its place of introduction. It does not appear until after the feast of Weeks. The Set feasts were primarily holy convocations unto Jehovah, but they were designed to make God’s people a blessing to the unbeliever, to the poor, and to the stranger. The purpose of the Holy Spirit’s coming at Pentecost was to empower the Christian for service. “ But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth” (Acts 1:8). The Holy Spirit’s presence in the believer is the divine enablement to take the Gospel into all the world and to every creature. We have in our possession a sacred trust from God. It is not enough to recognize divine ownership. We must exercise ourselves and all that we possess in loving service. The first four Feasts set forth in order the four great truths of the believer’s salvation, sanctifica tion, stewardship, and service. Qi]
