see, in bad weather, when a man goes on deck, he holds fast to something. He knows the danger of falling over board. In fair weather, however, he can easily become careless walking around without much thought of the impending trouble. And it always comes. One little roll of the ship could throw him o ff balance and toss him over the side.” There is a spiritual lesson here, too. Satan knows our weaknesses and just when everything seems to be going the smoothest he insidiously attacks us. Ne’er think the victory won, Nor lay thine armour down; Thy watchfulness Mill not be done Till thou obtain the crown. * * * How strange it is that 19 drops of water will keep 20people away from church. * * * WHAT KIND ARE YOU No one enjoys the dark. This is especially true of young children. They can be encouraged when frightened that the Lord is always right there with them, standing by. But one night a mother couldn’t seem to console her daughter. It was a stormy evening and lightening torched the sky with the thunder seeming to shake the house on its very foundations. The little girl was reassured, “Jesus is right here beside you.” But through her tears the child sobbed, “I know, mommy, but I want somebody with skin on him.” People of the world today are look ing as it were for “people with skin on them,” people who are living ex emplary lives for the Saviour. Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, Paul wrote, “Ye are living epistles (letters), known and read of all men.” So, may we follow the Lord’s exhor tation and let our lights shine before men that they may see our good works and glorify our Father which is in heaven. * * *
The greatest sum of addition or multipli cation is to count your blessings. * * * FRUITS OF THE SPIRIT When the apostle James speaks of justification by human deeds he refers to the fact that merely saying we are saved, and yet never showing the fruits of the Spirit, only reveals we don’t have the true faith of which while they are not actually visible, yet we can certainly see their results. A man had a dream in which he encountered an angel of the Lord. With arms outstretched, he requested, “Can you restock me with the fruits of the Spirit? I seem to have run out." In response, the angel reminded him, “I ’m very sorry; you see, we don’t stock fruits. We only have the seeds.” God’s truth and Holy Spirit indwell every born-again believer. But are our lives bringing forth the fruits of the Spirit so that others may see and know that we have eternal life? Our Saviour declared, “By tticir fruits ye shall know them." So faith, if it hath works, is dead, it is merly a lip-pro fession and not a heart possession. * * * While you may not be able to control the length of your life, you can control its width and depth. * * * REAL DANGERS There was a very famous man, Har- ry Pigeon, who circumnavigated the entire globe in a tiny yawl. When he returned to our country, he had this to teU, reporters: “I found the real danger in clear, calm weather, even when a good breeze was blowing. You
The reason why people miss church in poor weather is the reason why we have church in the first place.
