Biola Broadcaster - 1964-05

For most people they just have never been tried. * * * Inprayer, it's better to have a heart withoutwords, than tohave words without a heart. WORTH WHAT YOU GET We have a false standard in the world today, in that men seem to rebel at putting in an honest day’s work for an honest day’s pay. A rail road company was seeking laborers for its construction crews. In apply ing, one man asked, “How much do you pay?” The foreman responded, “Well, we usually pay a man what he’s worth.” Whereupon the lazy potential employee responded, “Sorry, I ’m not willing to work for that little.” I f God gave us what we really deserve, how poverty stricken most of us tvould be. PASTORS' CONFERENCE This summer Biola will be conduct ing five important Bible conferences. One will be specifically for pastors, and is held in cooperation with the Southwest Bible and Missionary Con ference, the Sudan Interior Mission, and the Arizona Bible College. The dates are June 15 to 19 at Mount Elden, Flagstaff, Arizona. One of the most rewarding things you could do for your church is to encourage your pastor to attend for fellowship with other men of God, inspiration and relaxation. The cooperating organiza tions make it absolutely free to pas tors of churches. Reservations should be made immediately. * * * .

THE PRACTICAL APPLICATION OF FAITH

When the famed tight rope ivalker Nanson had successfully crossed Nia- gra Falls on a thin wire, he received the wild acclaim of the assembled crowd. As later he talked, ivith one of the reporters, Nanson asked, "Do you believe I could do it again?” “Sure," came the ready response... “Sure,” came the ready response. “And do you think I could do it push ing a wheel barrow across?” “Of course,” the newsman quickly re sponded. “And if I had a man in that wheel barrow, do you think I could make it across?” “Certainly,” was the reply. Then, with a knowing twinkle in his eye, Nanson invited him, “Hop in and let’s try it.” “Oh, no . . . not me. I ’d never do it,” came the sudden refusal. He believed and yet he wouldn’t trust. We Christians are somewhat like this man who believed it all was pos sible and. yet who didn’t try it for himself. We believe that God can do the miraculous in our lives, but when it comes to actually trusting the prom ises of God and putting them to prac tice, we say in effect, “Oh, no, Lord, not me.” Abraham was saved not be cause of his works, but his works re vealed that he was converted. We are saved by faith alone, however, the faith that saves is never alone. “Ab raham believed God, and it was im puted unto him for righteousness, and he was called the friend of God.” What are the problems facing you to day? Will you trust the Lord to meet your needs? The promises of God have never been tried and found wanting. 33
