Local Solutions Have Global Impact

A Community of Learning ICSC staff frequently attends and presents at major conferences around the world, sharing the learnings of Sites of Conscience with the global community. In July 2024, Gegê Leme Joseph, ICSC’s Senior Program Manager for Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean (pictured here), attended two pivotal conferences, “Listening & Leading: The Art & Science of Peace, Resilience and Transformational Justice” and the International Council of Museums – ICOM’s 2024 ICMEMOHRI Conference “African Memorial and Human Rights Museums Building a More Sustainable Future for Peace” in Kigali, Rwanda. Both events were co-organized by ICSC’s member, the Aegis Trust – Kigali Genocide Memorial . “Listening & Leading” delved into Rwanda’s ongoing journey to unity, including its work to support victims while offering rehabilitation opportunities for perpetrators. The ICOM gathering brought to light crucial lessons from African memorials and human rights museums for the global museum decolonization movement.
