CELEBRATING LOU DESABLA
FROM: MISTY KUCERIS As time passes and the years go by, I think of all the spiritual people who have been in my life for decades. I remember their laughter. I ap - preciate their wit. I even feel the hope and enthusiasm we shared as we strove to enhance the world with spiritual love and wisdom. Lou was definitely among the top of my list when it came to all the attributes I appreciated in my spiritual soul seekers and brethren. He was an en- trepreneur who realized there is no shame or guilt in earning a profit while sharing the wisdom. He had an incredible sense of curiosity for the work of spirit. He was a seeker, a learner, a doer. I remember at one of the early Expos where he expressed what I would call an impish glee as he met new people who could share his desire for spiritual growth. Another time I remember when I said that one of my astrology articles was way too long and he said to write it anyway because he wanted to understand what might occur in the world. For me, Lou was the kind of person who motivated others, even when he wasn’t aware of it. I’m glad that he started Pathways maga - zine at a time when spiritual pursuits were seen as “wuggy-wuggy” (as I like to call it sometimes). And the fact that he wasn’t selfish with his legacy of Pathways and passed it on to Erin speaks volumes of know- ing when to let go, perhaps even let God. Lou may have moved on from this world to his next adventure, but he left behind a wonderful legacy and great people, such as Erin, to create her own legacy from the foundation he created. Misty Kuceris is the creator of the “Astrological Insights” column, and has been contributing to Pathways for over 30 years.
FROM: REV. GERALDINE AMARAL HODSON Some thirty years ago, I sent an article (on a floppy disk!) to the Pathways office, hoping that Lou would consider publishing it in an upcoming issue of Pathways Magazine. It was an article about using the Tarot as a tool for self-discovery and personal transformation. It took several months to hear from Lou, and he eventually offered to publish the article in exchange for an advertisement in the magazine. I sent in more articles over the next year and they were well-received by Pathways readers. Finally, I approached Lou about having a reg - ular column, writing about Tarot from a spiritual and metaphysical perspective. He agreed and my column entitled “Accessing Your Intu - ition” was born. As time went on and I continued to submit articles, it became clear that these published articles could be made into a book. Thus, I began organizing and embellishing the articles. Eventually the articles all came together and the book Tarot Celebrations: Honoring the Inner Voice was published. To be honest, this book would never have been written if it had not been for Lou. He gave me a chance, encouraged me, helped me hone my writing skills and crystalize the wisdom avail - able through the Tarot. I am so grateful to him. Also, from the exchange ad, I built up a business, offering Tarot readings and classes. NONE of this would have happened without Lou. I am so glad that his daughter, Erin, is continuing Lou’s legacy of giving people a chance, helping people to be successful as well as providing a unique resource for spiritual awareness and healing. RIP, Dear Lou.
Geraldine created the column, “Accessing Your Intuition”, inspired by the Tarot.
Lou was interested in local politics, seen here, attending a political event with Dick Gregory and Ralph Nader, circa 1982.
