suppliers and staff members it was also one of the most beautiful hotels to visit as well, and I have to agree, the views were gorgeous. I now wish I could go to all of the conferences! WHAT DID YOU LEARN? Being new to the industry, it was really good to mingle with suppliers and branch managers and learn more about the ins and outs of the business. I really enjoyed some of the presentations and learnt a lot about where we are and where we are heading as a company. It is an exciting time to be a part of Hays Travel. WHAT WAS THE FUNNIEST MOMENT? By far the fancy dress party. I mean, where else in the world could I get a picture with the female pope and a harem of nuns! It was extremely amusing seeing the puzzled faces of all the other guests at the hotel filming our parade and wondering what was going on. WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU TOOK AWAY WITH YOU? From the view point of a person looking into the industry without any previous knowledge, it is fascinating to find that in the digital era, good old customer service and simply caring for your customers is still an amazing business model. I have always booked holidays online, however, clearly there is a huge market which craves human interaction. ANY ADVICE FOR FIRST TIMERS AT THE NEXT EVENT? Mingle! Don’t just stick with a group that you feel comfortable with. I am not a fantastic networker, however, meeting so many people and making new friends made conference great for me! Also, find time for yourself. Conference is very hands on from morning to evening, however, with a bit of planning you can take advantage of the hotel and the surroundings.
