is quite pure and clean. Since this vessel is a human being— you —there is only one cleanser for the vessel. The marks o f sin are so deeply ingrained in every person that they can be removed only by the pre cious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, which He shed on the cross at the place called Calvary. That blood was shed in order that every human vessdl, big or little, could be cleansed. Have you ever asked to be made clean? I f not, do come and ask Him, the dear Lord Jesus Christ, to cleanse you today. He will, for He has promised, “ Ask, and ye shall receive” (John 16:24). Here is a little prayer which you can pray, if you do not know what to say to Him: “ Cleanse me from my sin, Lord, Put Th y power within, Lord, Take me as I am, Lord, Have You Received Cod’s Gift? At Christmas time we give and receive gifts, and what a joyous time it is! But are we remembering God’s greatest of all gifts—the Lord Jesus? W e prepare gifts for those we love, and we plan those presents with great care and thoughtfulness. How disappointed we would be if our loving gifts should be refused! On that first Christmas Day so long ago, God sent into the world His beloved Son, the Lord Jesus. Jesus Christ is God’s G ift to every man and woman, and every boy and girl. “ For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not per ish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). But gifts must be received, or taken. Have you received God’s gift of the Lord Jesus as the One who died on the cross for you? Have you 'ever said from your heart, “ I do receive the Lord Jesus as my Saviour” ? If not, won’t you do so today? Let us make God’s heart glad by receiving the G ift He has sent into the world for each one of us at such a cost! May this be your happiest Christmas season because you have received His G ift and have said from your heart, “ Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift” (2 Cor. 9:15). Memory Work Question: Why did G od . give His only begotten Son? Answer: “ For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him , should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). Question: What should we say from our hearts to God for this greatest of all gifts? Answer: “ Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift” (2 Cor. 9:15). Question: Who was born in the city of David on that first Christmas Day? Answer: “ For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord” (Lk. 2:11). Question: What did the prophet Isaiah say that the Saviour’s name would be called ? And make me all Thine own. “Keep me day by day, Lord, Underneath Th y sway, Lord, Make my heart Thy palace, And Thy royal throne.”

forming the trees into huge cones of colored radiance." No wonder two hundred thousand visitors came each year to view this gorgeous dis play of light and beauty! Fred pressed his face against the car window, his eyes wide in amazement and his mouth agape. Grandmother told him that these trees had been growing there for fifty years, and that they had been brought, as tiny seed lings, all the way from India. “Wait till I tell the fellow s!” Fred ex ploded as they emerged from the brilliant avenue. “ Now do you believe that there can be such a thing as a mile of living Christmas trees?” Grandmother questioned. “Why, of course! I saw them.” “Most things, to be real to us, do have to be seen,” she said. “ There is another tree I wish you could see, Fred, for it is far more wonderful than these deodars. It is the only real Christmas tree in all the world, and yet it isn’t a growing tree at all: It cannot be seen with these physical eyes of ours now, but only with the eye of faith.” Fred was listening quietly. “ Hundreds of years ago, on a hill called Calvary,” Grandmother continued, : “ God planted His Christmas tree. It was the cross of wood upon which He hung His Christmas Gift, the Lord Jesus Christ. That “ G ift” brought salvation for every one who will accept the Lord Jesus as Saviour. He died on the cross for your sin and mine, Fred— for everybody’s— and in order to be saved, we must see Him by faith, and receive His love Gift.” Fred was thoughtfully silent for a mo ment, and then he said, slowly, “Why, I see, now.” As his face brightened he ex claimed, “Jesus is God’s Christmas Present for .me /” W e are so near Christmas that I suppose many of you will be thinking of Christmas puddings. How nice, and how good they will look, how tempting to eat! Have you ever helped your mother make one? Have you seen her carefully measure out the in gredients: so much flour, so much fruit, so much butter ? Blended together, they make the plum pudding that you so much enjoy. I wonder whether you ever have tasted this pudding? I found the recipe for it in a paper that I was reading the other day. It sounds as if it would be very good, and I believe that if we try, we can all make it. It is called the Love Pudding. It is made of various things. First, take three cups of Loving Kindness and mix it with Gentleness. Add a pinch of the salt of Fun, and stir in plenty of currants of Patience. This pudding is very good for quarrel some people. Various things like bad tem per vanish after a slice! Should it happen by any chance that, when you try to make this Love Pudding, at first you do not succeed very well, do not give up in despair. O f course, the great secret of making it properly is to be sure that the vessel in which it is made A Christmas Pudding B y E dith G oreham C larke
