CASEY EARL Casey is an apprentice in our selling systems team and was a finalist in the Best Apprentice category at this year’s North East Employee of the Year awards. In her spare time Casey competes as part of a marching jazz band.

AGE: 19.

HOBBIES: Marching Jazz Band.

35 members each, along with a lot of supporters per band, so it’s a lot of people to perform in front of! We also compete every Sunday between April and October in smaller competitions. We perform a 15 minute display which is judged and marked for how well we perform. Bands are split into three different divisions and The Royal Sapphires, which is the band I am in, is currently in the highest, Division 1.

WHEN DID YOU START YOUR HOBBY: When I was four.

WHAT INSTRUMENT DO YOU PLAY AND WHY DID YOU PICK IT: I play a snare drum which my band trainer suggested, and I have gone on to win numerous competitions with. WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE MEMORY: Our band winning in the World Championships multiple times and scooping an individual first place in 2010. Also having a strong friendship group is one of the most amazing parts of being in a band. We compete at the World Championships every August bank holiday weekend which has recently just changed to ‘The Main Event’, where bands from up and down the country come and compete.
