“WE CLOSE THE DOOR WITH BIG SMILES AS WE ARE WELL ON TRACK TO MEET OUR TARGET. WE’VE HAD SOME FAB BOOKINGS GO THROUGH TODAY AND SOMEONE HAS A BIG JUICY BOOKING TO LOOK FORWARD TO FIRST THING TOMORROW!”
17:45 Park and Ride time again. It’s a bit like the taxi ride you have on the way home after a night out – I have the same conversation with the driver every day – ‘been busy?’ ‘yeah, have you?’ ‘what time you working till?’ etc. Yep, you know the drill! 18:30 My nights are always taken up with either standing on the sideline of a football pitch or cricket practice. Mondays is football, so it’s straight from work to meet my husband, Andy. I go all wrapped up to support Reece and the boys and for a little gossip with the mams of course! 20:00 At last, I’m home. I have a hot shower and out my pjs on. Andy walks Charlie the dog whilst I make tea, ready to settle down and watch rubbish TV - bliss! 22:00 My bed is calling, so it’s lights out and time for bed, ready for a busy Tuesday in the life of Leeanne Burns!
11:45 On Mondays, our regional sales manager, Clare, rings in the afternoon to discuss trading, so even though I looked at ‘pyramid’ this morning, I go back to it to prepare myself for the call in more detail, so that I have all the information and a full understanding of how we are trading, what’s working well and the things I need to focus on. 12:15 Lunches start for the team, then there is a whole lot of talk about food! Truth be known, it’s usually the same food for most of us daily so it’s a pointless conversation, but we just love talking about food! The store is now busy and the main priority for me is serving customers and supporting the team,
and I leave the call motivated with clear direction.
16:30 The day is starting to quieten down now so it’s a chance to discuss how the day has gone with the team. To make sure we hit our daily target I challenge the team to see who can get any bookings in the bag in the last hour. Obviously I want to win that challenge so we are all like meerkats waiting for any last minute customers! 17:00 I double check that tonight’s post for Facebook is all scheduled and we have one scheduled for first thing the next day. Then it’s all hands on deck to make sure the store is clean and tidy and to ensure all admin jobs are completed and cleared. Brochures are restocked then Henry the Hoover comes out so we are all ready for the next morning. 17:30 We close the door with big smiles as we are well on track to meet our target. We’ve had some fab bookings go through today and someone has a big juicy booking to look forward to first thing tomorrow!
remembering to offer on-the-spot feedback and leading by example.
15:00 After a busy few hours Clare calls to catch up on trading and any other things I would like to discuss. I look forward to the call as we review together the week before - what’s worked, what needs attention and what’s working in other shops. It sets me up for that week with clear actions that we have agreed, plus lots of support and recognition is given
