Ferhat Kur lu
Ferhat Kurlu was born in Fatsa in 1976. He attended the elementary school in Fatsa and continued his education at Ladik Akpinar Anadolu Ogretmen High- School in Samsun. His Teachers discovered his talent for sculpturing and painting when he was a teenager. During High School, he enjoyed taking painting lessons. He was successful at painting. In 1992, he started to study at the Department of Theology at Dokuz Mayis University in Samsun. In 1993, he met Muzaffer Ecevit there and took his first calligraphy lessons in the script of Riq’a with him. Mer Ecevit also gave him general information about the art of Islamic calligraphy. Through these lessons he became more interested in this art. In 1996, he met Hassan Celebi in Istambul and started to take calligraphy lessons in the scripts of Thuluth and Naskh . In 2000, he received his Ijazah (Diploma) in the scripts of Thuluth and Naskh from Hassan Celebi at the ceremony organized at IRCICA . Mer Kurlu has participated in exhibitions in Turkey, Tunisia, Doha, Dubai and Sharjah. He has also produced calligraphy pieces for mosques and fountains. He has written approximately 150 Hilyahs and 50 pieces in the scripts of Thuluth and Jali Thuluth . He believes that the art of Islamic calligraphy develops the humain soul. At the same time he is working as an Imam at Nisantasi Nesrutiyet-Hamidiye Mosque where he continues to produce piecesin the art of calligraphy, and gives lessons to his students .
