My name is Bill West, Australian. I was born in a poor family. My father was a clever photographer and painter. He supported us in arts. For me I have started painting since I was young. My father encouraged me a lot to study arts. I have specialized in plastic arts for 7 years, and I have teached it in Oxford University and Manchester institute for 2 years. At the end of sixties, I stopped painting for 12 years as I was looking for another career. In 1977, I have moved to Morocco to resume my artwork after a long time of cessation. This was the best thing I have ever done, because going back to my work had survived me. To me, drawing is an adventure, so I should never stop development. The greatest thing in painting is when you start without knowing how to finish. When I was a beginner, I cared about what and why I am painting. Today, I do not think like that, I draw whatever comes to my mind.
My first painting was the holy Kabaa in Al haram Mosque. The greatest mosque in Islam. Kabaa is the first holy site on earth. Muslims all over the word face toward in their prayers and walk around in Tawaf .I decided to draw the Holy Kabaa and I think I have painted it in a wonderful way , with the place of the black stone shining and brightening . I have also painted the Prophet’s Holy Mosque in Madinah, which in the second Holy site with the green Dome spreading a sacred spiritual atmosphere. When you mention Al Madinah and the Prophet Mosque, the first thing that you would come to your mind is the green Dome. When I became more and more interested in Holy places, I started painting theAl AqsaMosque and theDome of the Rock in Jerusalem, which is one of the most important Islamic icons. I was Honored to have the chance to paint the three Holy Mosques. Shapes and colors that eyes see have both inner and outer aspects. Art is the means by which an artist can combine fiction and reality. The artist’s vision is his private perspective which arouses both contemplation and exclamation, and encourages the mind of the receiver, while, at the same time, sheds light on many hidden sides.
