Thy Yoke Lord of the farthest star, Lord o f the springs of the sea, Lord of each crystal of snow, Guide o f the homing bee, Lord of the rainbow’s curve, Lord of Orion’s bands, Lord of this tired heart, Lord of these weary hands, I bow my neck to Thy yoke, And, lo, I am rested and strong, Lord of my mind and soul, Lord o f Thy gift of song! Prayer is always the charioteer of a spiritual awakening. The Secret of Happiness The secret of happy days is not in our outward circumstances, but in our own heart life. A large draught of Bible taken every morning, a throwing open of the soul’s windows to the precious promises of the Master, a few words of fervent prayer, a deed or two of kindness to the first person you meet, will brighten your countenance and make your feet “ like hind’s feet” for the day’s march. If you want to get your aches and your trials out of sight, bury them under your mercies. Begin every day with God, and then, keeping step with your Master, march on toward Home over the roughest road, or in the face of the hardest wind that blows. Live for Jesus by the day, and on every day, until you come where “ the Lamb is the light thereof,” and “ there is no night there!” — T. L. Cuvier God bases His rewards not on con spicuousness of service, but on fidelity to opportunity. — G. Campbell Morgan There was a time when I thought the raising of Lazarus was the great est work ever done on this earth, but I now think that the conversion of three thousand Jews on that day of Pentecost was more wonderful still. — D. L, Moody . It is high time the Church preached the gospel of Christ without apology. — Ayer. I put my feet upon God’s path, I know not where that path will lead Nor yet how long the road will be. I need not know. I only plead That He will always be my guide. And I shall find, when life is past, His path was safe, and it was best, And it has led me home at last. —Martha Snell Nicholson Page Thirty-seven

Praise Brings Blessing The shortest, surest way to all hap piness is this: Make it a rule to thank and praise God for everything that happens to you. For it is certain that, whatever seeming calamity comes to you, if you thank and praise God for it, you turn it into a blessing. Could you, therefore, work miracles, you could not do more for yourself than by this thankful'spirit: for it needs not a word spoken and turns all that it touches into happiness. God’s Word— Beginning and End There is a unique harmony in the Bible. Take for instance a comparison o f the first two and the last two chap ters: In Genesis the earth is created; in Revelation it passes away. In Genesis the sun and moon ap pear; in Revelation there is no need of sun or moon. In Genesis there is a garden, the home of a man; in Revelation there is a city, the home of nations. In Genesis we are introduced to Satan; in Revelation we see his doom. In Genesis we hear the first sob and see the first tear; in Revelation we read: “ God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying.” In Genesis the curse is pronounced; in Revelation we read: “ There shall be no more curse.” In Genesis we see our first parents driven from the tree of life; in Revel ation, they are welcomed back. —London Pillar o f Fire He who gives promptly gives twice as much.

My Worthlessness Upon the cross of Jesus My eyes at times can see The very dying form of One Who suffered there for me; And from my stricken heart with tears Two wonders 1 confess— The wonders of redeeming love And my own worthlessness. —Clephane “And, thine ears shall hear a voice behind thee saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when, ye turn to the left.” — Isaiah 30:21. Trees Keep a Diary Only a small part of a tree is alive at any given season of the year and that is the layer under the bark, start ing at the roots and running to the leaves. Each tree carries in its trunk a story o f its life* and if you should slice off a block of the tree you could read this story. Inside of this thin layer of living wood is a core, the living wood of other years. The sap flows through the layer of living wood. On either side of this living layer is a layer which is partly alive and partly turned to wood. This is why the growth of a tree shows a ring in the trunk for each year. Some of the huge trees in Califor nia were well grown when Moses led the Children of Israel out of Egypt. — The Gospel Herald Truth shall spring out of the earth; and righteousness shall look down from heaven. Yea, the Lord shall give that which is good; and our land shall yield her increase. —Psalm 85:1 1 ,12 Instead of counting sheep when unable to sleep, why not count your blessings? The numbers will run so high you will fall asleep from sheer exhaustion.

A bushelful of resolutions is of small value; a single grain of practice is worth the whole.
